Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. We have a landmark ruling last night it came out I believe around 430. And that had to do with AT&T. And Time Warner we'll talk about that we'll also discuss. A Chinese company opening in major facility in Worcester Massachusetts why are they choosing luster we'll talk about that and then finally. How many Americans are tapping their retirement savings prematurely hi everybody it's very truck with you here it's a Wednesday. And chuck we've been waiting cash how long a year and a half that this announcement about AT&T and Time Warner. Just about and AT&T pretty much getting the 100% go ahead yesterday are really getting the 100% go ahead from. A judge in there are lawsuit against the Department of Justice who were trying to block this. Merger for going through into the US district court judge Richard Leon did not impose a single condition on the sore right through. Not really. Now John Mooney thought there'd be restrictions that. No restrictions and that's what really. Brett that is to set off a chain of events but. Let's talk about the nature of these two companies I think of AT&T. As being a cell phone company. And Time Warner is being the producer of content. Well the big thing AT&T also has a significant presence in people's homes whether it's through their broadband. Access to the Internet they provide that whether it is through DirecTV which streams content and people's homes. But they've tried to move in that direction that's why they made the acquisition of DirecTV or think about five years ago now. And so the big thing that AT&T wanted to do. Was BO say what we see all this content from time Warren that we want to know who to be able to own we we want to be able to say look this is ours and we wanna develop streaming services for this content and we have a ton of great content that we do that. Nearly eighteen tee today. Is not a content producer it's not what they do so what does Time Warner owns so the ball well I'll put I'll tell you what they own number one. This year they are fuel to the Warner Bros. a studio. OK they are the number three studio by revenue in the country. For movies are movies. If you go back to last year they were the number two studio and here's some of the titles that the other that they own that you know you might have seen in the last couple years Wonder Woman. Dunkirk and Lego Batman and like these are you know big titles that are drawing. You know north of a 150 million dollars in revenue in the US they own any networks. Yes a date they own a number of networks okay. I'm gonna pull the full list just so that I can deal them will rattle through because I think they own I think it's probably cost 45 or fifty but they don't own nicely and ABC NBC CBS news ranked well here's what they do well. They don't HBO. And to. That's that is huge for them is that all that. Tucker how bear lake in terms of you know I don't watch HBO HBO's phenomenally primary now it has probably the best programming out of easy artwork on out there and it it's not even close they have that thing. Thrown games are and Gareth from team if there's the other part that they alone is TBS okay. You say they see your answer talk about things that I never nova but here's. TBS you never watch normal people do you watch March Madness I know you never watch March Madness near the one person in the world may elect to and is on ESPN just CBS owns three of the four channels that it broadcast. So it's like these are major properties that they are acquiring CNN. CNN I mean like you you go down the list of people watch what is it HGTV. And watch CNN. Is that is that a part of that. I don't know that it is they are alias dvds it's massive owner Arthur at that you're talking CNN I am CNN CNN's own time yes but like you go down the list and it's it's you know some pretty significant things that they're picking up Peterson loses a big win for AT&T mean because I like your stock. I am looking at their stock it's down. 4% I thought I thought for sure we get it I I was looking at 10% increase instead of 4% geek wells is now they actually have to go out and spend the money to buy the company. You know borrow the money don't you know that's that's the big thing in so. If you take a look at Time Warner stock and pulling up now is tops three point 6% and that's what you've seen mergers and acquisitions I understand the what about the safety of that AT&T did and because right now. If you're buying your seem to get 6% dividend money team tease Betsy with all the money there to borrow. It it I would take that risk we take a look haven't looked at the fine I would I'll tell you what night if if I was an owner of AT&T and I might be hammered down yet the dividends in good shape. Yeah the oral pain at 40% of their earnings about what about how much money today the pork by its parent company if let's let's say they Bartlett say there you know Bob interest expense goes up you know adults smoke and revenues can go. Your revenues like that dividend is not in any danger at all this. What does this lead to. In terms of other mergers because I'm already seeing that Comcast. Is gonna put in. An offer to purchase fox by the end of today. They are gonna get into a bidding war with Disney over those fox assets Disney usually doesn't get in debate and Bob Bob Iger Disney's usually guide it says look I offered yeah. 58 dollars and Patrick. Fox has a lot of valuable assets on that studios in in you know the Disney wants because they're trying to ramp up all the streaming stuff in particular they wanna keep away from Comcast is Comcast has what Disney does not which has direct. Dropped right into people's homes near there as soon as Comcast. If rod to millions of the fox. In a by somebody. There's not really anyone left out that was right did you you don't want Viacom you don't want CBS or given the data security on NBC you don't wanna get in the middle of all that stuff. You know you gotta think to be allowed to. If they don't NBC Comcast owns and seat looking mine if they bought Viacom images by the studios like Paramount and stuff like that you know that that might be what they end up wanting there what about T-Mobile and they had to get in comments. What in in what way their cellphone companies they they don't they wanted to get into a piece of the action here you're trying to merge with sprint. They've really need this just because again as you said their purely a cell phone company AT&T is Comcast is for eyes you know that. You you go through those other companies they're not they'll have presences in people's homes. T-Mobile doesn't T-Mobile says look we are a cell phone open and that's that's what we do sprint says hey we are a cell phone company that's what we do now does it put it behind the eight ball a little bit. Potentially in in terms of being able offer free content to was subscribers. But. T-Mobile so aggressive on pricing that I don't think it matters in Sprint's kind of see switch over to that fifteen dollars for a plan I haven't yet I've I've been jammed up this week I did give McCall has to find out more about they did tell me it was not guaranteed for any time so obviously knew you kind of taken matters into your own hands there he would switch out to what you can always switch out there's no long term contractor anything so. I'm a my my next bill and actually just crossed the billing cycle such bigger paying for the next you know thirty days on AT&T anyways. The kind of take that thirty days and kind of do little research and then I would want to via I tried to do though. Whole foods thing yesterday Tucker and The Who know Bill Black men that work in which which part. They are under you missed this Tucker scoop came in the there are whole foods is coming to Boston came out the press release yesterday and New England he delivered via. I was trying to Amazon's mouth. And so I downloaded the whole foods app from and they signed me a store. But it's not ready. Me being me I can't senior don't live close enough to a whole foods. Well don't like it just says not according to their standards and put it on your phone Judy gave you don't put the whole foods epic no I don't near whole foods. Put on your phone that they signed historically based on where you. So I've got oh I know what story they were signed but they wouldn't be able to deliver to me now it's like twenty minutes away how many miles. Minus twenty minutes and seven on a tall miles away now well anyway I I tried to use yesterday. I I just hope we get it says right on the app not available yet in that in the hole. New England region but they said the announcements and it's coming yeah I don't think they've put a date. Erica says its own I will I will let you know Paris I'm excited to try it. Big news out of western Massachusetts under the gun if Chinese bio pharma company. Hasn't committed to building a sixty million dollar plan this is big news is it's a it's it's a 150 jobs in Worcester. And I think it's a Smart move on the part of this Chinese company. Great news for what straddled deceive more more companies cutting going in this direction just because I think you. Just again we've we've talked for awhile but how Massachusetts is on ballots and everything skews towards the Boston area I look at this and ice it myself on this if Obama. By a par cup right widely need to be in team and I know you want it. Recruit the scientists in the talent. But if you're if you're building a manufacturing facility. Built with rats she. The ranked as she beat you look at rents in Worcester would pay twenty cents on the dollar compared to campers the big thing that westerners still needs to figure at the about a long term plan for that airport is because it's a pain to get to it's apparently it's it's just not. It's not east vital organ. Boosters like a long way from Logan you know an hour. And that's with no traffic now most most people what street view of interest preflight panel they don't like it though now you know it's they gave if you could ever figure out how to get that airport working in western but he can't. The genius was decided to put up on top of the hill it really wasn't a Smart idea is that. Though the players will be able easier as the title no actually it's easily and lower altitude as the years sticker to begin with but thanks for planes. What are you gonna do. Well anyway 150 jobs I I I wouldn't be surprised if you saw. Chuck going for a lot of these Biotech company saying. We're gonna have. Some of our research done in Boston because that's where the kids from MIT are. But when it comes time to assemble these drugs in and actually manufactures them where you want them close to Boston. But we don't want them in Boston as we ought to pay the rent and wages and more out there and housing costs and. Here's the other thing that plays into the somewhat in and again it's all I have is anecdotal evidence on this but a lot of my friends who have been trying to buy places and they've been pushed out to that for 95 loop in prices are so high and CO a lot of people in the early thirties moving out they're potentially looking for work. I have one friend who have said David moved north and over another just moved Hudson so they're gonna say. Team you know I've even if by make 101000 dollars a year laughs Michael's Orleans but alas but what I'm working in West Coast or my commute better and better quality of life I think you may see a trend towards this in the next few years is that I do think and again it's anecdotal. But I think you have people move and out that way and. You know it's nice quality like you get out past 495. Even bat past when 22 that we he would have passed for 95 people you forget it's still foreign country you know. This is why most Americans. Tapped their retirement savings. Easily. Now I had a tie I always tell people don't do what they'll do it but I've done it I've borrowed on my 401K in ordered. Cover an emergency your to my house sort of like that. Lot of people do. Yet this is the the number one reason why people tapped their retirement savings to pay off debt or two bills this is it according to airport. By go banking rates and so 44% of people that was the reason why they tapped into their retirement savings early. 22%. Borrowers to pay for financial emergency. 21% to pay for medical expenses that 10% what you said to pay for home. And then about 3% to pay for higher education and almost half the people who tap those retirement accounts was to pay off debt. War bills on what is it 60% of Americans don't have 500 bucks in the tracking down so. Our poll question today is have you ever taken money out of your retirement account early. And we're here to talk about a brand new product available for landlords it's called Z deposit dot net Jake. What. Terry we created a security deposit product. To really help the problem a lot of blame border facing with security deposits which is. You know one it's time consuming to open the small internal security pop number sons now. And yet to go into the branch got signed paperwork and their small dollars and in the turn. And it's likely to complaints in Massachusetts really tough for landlords and security deposit accounts. You have to give them ten in certain forms when they open up the count and you have to pay interest and you. And we should do all this canal through Z deposit all of that you can do through Z deposit it literally takes about forty seconds opened up an account. We handled the automatic forms that are generated the count number department commission statement all that since the tenant. And the interest descent to the tenant. Automatically every year. This sounds like something it's going to be very valuable to large landlords it might have 200 tenants and small landlords and might only have five tenths yeah absolutely with a large landlords. It's just a lot of hassle to managed so we make dad very efficient for the small landlords a lot of them are afraid of nineteen complaints done correctly so some of them. Some of them don't even like taking security deposits were hopeful that this will help them do that. Folks if he'd like to learn more about C deposit go to their website Z deposit dot net. Does given that both you guys out there you know and at any rate we're supposed to be the Smart ones and well evidently not maybe not. 46%. Of Americans surveyed believe that future generations of retirees will be worse off financials he. Then current American retirees. I would put myself. In that 46%. I I think future retirees. Are going to be worse off here's your here's where I think in and here's why I think they're going to be worse off. There's a lot of retirees today track. They receive a pension check you other than Social Security that right now maybe not your mom and dad yep he eat if you surveyed. You know a 175. Years your world a lot of them would be getting pension check from the old employer. That my group my generation very few of us are going to be receiving and you're generation I don't know anybody rather than police officers and teachers. That are going to be receiving pensions. I'll take the that the counterpoint on this I should think things are going to be better in what way. I think people realize this stuff now. Do right now what I think a lot of people in the baby boomer generation didn't. Well here's the thing is I think they counted on a pension and and they were working during the exact time when corporations were kind of pensions and getting rid of them so was the kind of got you know the rug pulled out from under her right in the middle I did I I in in when it the company I worked for. And I work for them in 1986. Until 2003. Men. They stop the pension after news bike in and and I was in my forties when they stopped in I think that happen to a lot of boomers and Cottam. All are did you know I think when you look at how a lot of people in their twenties and thirties think in. I think it in Tucker if I'm wrong on this correct me. We largely assumed that no one is going to help us with our retirement. You know and so I think going into this safe assumption Dornan and we have our eyes open for it it's not saying hey we're going to have a better retirement C read your more conscientious than boomers as it relates to or saving for retirement. I just think that because of what we saw happen to boom dealt with is again boomers had this there was the social contract between companies we work to the company twenty years than they gave you the gold watch that gave the pension and that was it. We realized he companies they're going to get review at the first sign of trouble and cut your benefits. And I think a lot of people today sit there and say hey we have to take matters into our own hands and save ourselves. Him no like I tend to agree if you can get to the boomers it's room I IC it among my peers you know I see a lot of guys that. You know back in the easy to the crash of 2001. With the crash. 2008. Where they had to evacuate their retirements just to stay afloat and in now there. You know they're my age 506265. And they're still work and they're playing catch it you know it's no fun don't work when you're 65 because you have to work. If you want to right is he just really enjoy what you do when you won ago. That's one thing. When you have to go that's a problem. Attacker. Pay attention stern. And little round there. He's here at a time we've said that in the last week yes it's real now yes all 175. Pounds of me there isn't easy to tell. If you're actually over a week without a scale prepare yourself Tucker let me ethic. He's back. But the but the it's it's all to do with waist size. And it in you can correlate the size of your waist to the U traction now to the contraction of diabetes Tucker what though what what it says you dare 3330. It's thirty or they say their three at seven inches to go. Down to a 31 and then there talk to me Monday. That refer. That if they're impressive and used to be 36 sometimes 38 what he's done amounts are thirty while that you impressive. Yeah but what they say is Al waist measurements of more than 34 and a half inches for women. And more than forty inches for men narrowing to a significantly increased risk of type two diabetes. As well as heart attack they say that eat vacuum at forty inch waist. You you have a high chance of diabetes. And ranks I've been really tough time buying pants to begin with because I've these short like season no one makes 29 insolent pants. Pretournament slide up else other I'm thirty so no matter what you know Amazon no one make it that they don't make them. No are you try to M don't know when makes 29 inch pants because otherwise they get these things that are coming down over my feet knocked her to know. Traffic. It's gonna get even worse hard to imagine it's gonna get worse we'll talk about it when we return. Time now for the street watch a look at the market's performance so far today until Berrian jog right here on the financial exchange radio network. Michael Armstrong joins us now for Wall Street watching Mike let's start off first with H&R block which is down 18% today. No doing their attacks with him anymore. You know they they are. Giving us weaker than expected guidance so maybe. Is there earnings for the current quarter were behind making it 543 sheer force by 27. It did raise the quarterly dividend. Yet the guidance for the full year is really the concern here. Profit margins are going to be tighter and there's yeah. And not currently active that its stock down eight cents. Did it it would HR block does the other nine months out of the year the people are filing their taxes. I'd probably around. You know they do by the way they do 65% of their revenue in the first quarter typically. Let's talk a little bit about AT&T obviously some movement on the the mergers there. But what else is being affected as a result. Huge slew of companies so yeah obviously AT&T. They clearing the way that it by Time Warner both the stocks being impacted AT&T panels 5%. And Time Warner is up about three and a half percent very typical when your query company's stock price goes down. But the deal seems to have cleared the way for a lot of other deals to be announced Comcast. Down about 1% in the spirit that they've been put to paper box. Is need their up about two and a half percent they're also considering a bit of boxed in 21 century fox reps seven and a half percent. Outside of the media world you also about health care stocks being impacted so CDS is up three and a half percent. On their proposed it looked at it and now looking a lot more promising. Aetna up 4%. Verizon down 2% say you know this is a very specific deal that seemed to have very broad reaching implications. They have all these other potential and they he'll play out of the active. Outstanding thank you Mike that's Mike Armstrong with Wall Street watch or a bad news for Tucker so the only plus. Well you drive through that Braintree splits twice today oh you mean hell. Yes and Amazon. Is leasing can disagree a huge facility down it's gonna dad just a dramatic about it traffic now for folks. Are awry. If you're not familiar with this. Area if you if you take the Mass Pike and you'd drive from the west in two to 128 in eagle south. Eventually year and get to 93 north route three south all the one area one point eight to 93 to retreat it's it's just a mess it's always traffic now. All it's awful and now Amazon's going in there with a massive 250000. Square foot facility and it might grow to what 450 it's. It's a monster and the reason why Amazon wants to be there is the current location Gibbs is like it's a central location to a massive distribution there really has people there but the the concern among brain term residents in and rightly so. Is that if you have all these tractor trailers coming in in an all these delivery vehicles going out at all hours of the day don't. It's gonna make it traffic's bad there now not all day but most of the day this should make you pretty much that all. I think they should have gone ten minutes down the road to a lot more open space him agreement by the forever bridged that they're doing a lot of construction there there's a lot of land available seemingly. And it's only like 1015 minutes from Braintree and add 262. Vehicles. Each hour. While that's a lot I mean and then even during the afternoon it's going to be 160 vehicles per hour mean the traffic I and that area. Is just gonna be not city. In by the weight to what to put this in perspective in you look at kind of cut traffic engineers. Tried to be analyzed how many vehicles should be able to hand be on different types of roads and so the horse now. If you're talking just basic two lane local roads are getting on and off of this. You're talking somewhere in the ballpark okay in this is again it it it depends on the specific. Area. But you're talking somewhere in the ballpark without burning and any traffic problems about a thousand vehicles day. In which means they're gonna do that in four hours okay. Now if you're talking about. Two lane rooms where you don't have you know not just one lane and each side or anything the two lanes each way okay. You could potentially upped that to 181000 vehicles and there's a massive upgrade you're able to do now. But even that you sit here and say okay this facility just on its own over ten hours 12500 they're gonna chew up near 20% of your availability just from these cars going in and out. The if it's gonna get bad now from the city standpoint and town of Braintree they're looking at it you're gonna get tax revenue from a 200 full time jobs right so merits occurred Garrett if it's yeah it's got to go somewhere now so which was going to write it it just. The it's. And can you imagine how bad that's going to be. In the afternoons in between Iraq in into July and August 3:4 o'clock and in it and also some here have to leave for the tape on Tuesday. Some other graph just is a fight traffic engineering fascinating which is on. Per lane if you're talking about the maximum rate that you can handle it okay even in slow situation why do you notice that I I don't know what I'm I'm reading right now this is from the it's from some kind of traffic engineering conference at 19100 vehicles per hour probably yeah. So this again you you're talking about chewing up like 20% of one lane just from Amazon. So are there any rumors of them. Altering the traffic infrastructure in that area my guess is I wouldn't be surprised if there's contingency that's thrown in where they have to do something kinda like what he's so offensive. In the zones and paid. Who may or may become OK I I can tell you right now and is on his knock and it's not like you build the stadium where they'll throw money at it. This creates a giant warehouse these are low budget operations raiders sixteen dollar seventeen dollar an hour jobs. They're several they're not in Visalia here story Lori Braintree here's fifty million to redo the and it wouldn't be fifty nobody hundred. But here's the thing they may have to if they can't reach the distribution they want to because there's too much traffic like if if there's senator there's such a backlog that now can't move as quickly as possible they may say look we're willing to give you some cash to make this better than. Say I don't know but Tesla shares have been ripping in means going up folks if you don't Wear that that's technical or rip rip. It's a rip the but they're firing 9% of their employees. Something doesn't smell right here. My again I acting companies did this before in the stock is rocket someway something doesn't smell right here now this is a company that is supposed to be in. Bull on growth mote you know. And you have them announcing 9% of their workforce being laid off the same time that the trying to ramp up production to. They're trying to. Prune their balance sheet and they they need to make their income statement look better well as Wall Street loves it when you fire people I'll tell you what they're trying to do is they're trying to get their stock price above thank the threshold for there convertible bonds to convert stocks they can issue more debt and clear some of that debt off the balance sheet so. It's a whole bunch of financial engineering. I don't know if it's good for the long term of this company and you know like if you are in growth mode and you're trying to grope your putting 9% your workforce and Jack Welch used to do this all the time with G they were grown like tussle as is. In in and that's the that's where the issue is so. Something doesn't smell right here. Hands. Watch out on this one. Our watch out. Taught we're talking about your new guy it's called deem mystifying trusts here's a question for you. Is it possible to protect your children's inheritance on talking about. After you die. From their potential divorce which might not occur until five years after you've passed away yeah and that's a wonderful thing about trust is so many people get tied up with taxes and probate and you know what. They do a lot after your dad. Never mind rate while you're living and this is one of them so the answer is absolutely yes. You can protect assets from future divorces of your children and and not even just divorces. Any creditor pick up a financial problem just a wanna help people limited to just divorce although I can tell you divorces is one of them. Bigger concern more common people half again more common and so yes I mean the way you do it is what the language or put in the trust as you simply allow. The children to service trustee. So they're doing everything like it's their own. Their own asset buying and selling it Sandra but they appoint an independent trustee. Who decides when distributions can come out to the childhood identity and their siblings know they should be an accountant or an attorney and they can remove and replace hold it really the boss they don't get stuck with a you know some crazy attorney gets in there that that doesn't wanna give out assets. And it's that's sold discretionary distribution that protects it from any divorce when they come knock in looking for money when wanna get divorced him. Greg McBride from Bankrate dot com joins us now here to talk about the pending decision from the Federal Reserve coming later today Greg thank you for joining us. Thanks for having me back I appreciate it Greg so were were over 90% that the the Fed is going to hike today really should be close to a 100% it seems like. I wanna talk a little bit about how this is actually filtering down on on the personal level. What is what are we seeing in terms of saving yours rates nationally. As the Fed is hiked over the last year and a half. Eberling depends on where you locked you'll a lot of the biggest banks. Are are still very stingy with their payouts if they've increased what they're paying out on savings accounts CDs at all it's been nothing more than a token increase. But it says vastly different story if you are shopping around if you look at it smaller community banks credit unions online banks. That's where he's seen some pretty substantive improvement atop the building. Savings account that are available nationwide which we post them Bankrate dot com. Has almost doubled since the Fed started to boost rates that was one point 1%. Back in late twenties misty when the Fed started this and now here we are on the cost of the seventh rate hike. At the top getting out as little over 2% and those will continue to climb as the that is active so it's just. Yeah you'd have to shop around and dispatch if you aren't that you are benefiting from. They continued increases in interest rates and that you know that carry forward but if you're sitting back waiting for it become do you. Still waiting in your going to be waiting awhile longer very. And I will say I do you check your side just about once a week just kind of see what's out there and see if I'm missing out on anything suits of really good resource there. What about things like credit card interest rates and a home equity lines to those bump up immediately after the Fed hikes today. Pretty quick I mean you'll see that higher rate typically within one to two statements cycle so. Having call at sixty days you will see that higher rate reflected on your camp for both the credit cards and home equity lines. Not a credit card the on average credit card rates are already at a record high. And they're gonna continue to go up so you know that's one that I think really. Warrants attention grab one of those 0% or other low rate battles transfer offers is still out there I used that as. Period it however you can insulate yourself. From rising interest cost that really make hay to get that it paid off once it's all because it but it cost it's only escalating and on the home equity front. I think the profile of that status changed a lot because not only are interest rates going up and they keep ratcheting higher but you also lost the tax deduction in a lot of cases and yet so you know your net cost of that debt. Easily double what it was you know 2050 before that certain rate very. Gregory got the Producer Price Index coming out came out this morning rather. And the overall index now over the last twelve months showing inflation of three point 1% stripping out food and fuel. We see it's still a two point 6% both of those accelerating from a year ago pretty significantly. How does that affect your projection on where rates are going this year. Well I think inflation is really the watchword of fed policy I think it's really going to be a key ingredient that determines. You know it's affecting intent continue to move at a gradual pace if I have to. Stepped things up and be more aggressive. Enjoy decided that they PPI which you know that's no fluke yesterday we got the Consumer Price Index. And it's so much the same thing the headline number was at two point 8% which is a six year high in the court number also well over the 2% marks soak the out. Is it one that is the that is correct you know they were competent replacement got to move closer to 2%. OK they're right about that but I think you know what did they have on their hands over the course the next six to twelve months is making sure it doesn't get too much above 2% more. All right very good we appreciate the time Greg Avago one. Trap that is Greg McBride from Bankrate dot com. You know what's curious is you have these this inflation I think a lot of this inflation is coming. Due to improved confidence a type I think people if your business owner. You're more confident today in pride in for ten years well it is we got to it was yesterday. A small business activity that would maybe mean a small business confidence index that came out and I'll show you the chart on this just a ponied up right now. Yes you were ago. 34%. Of small businesses say that now is a good time to expand at 34% doesn't sound like a huge number. To put this in perspective. For the period from about 2007. Through 2014. We never got above 10% yeah. Okay the last peaks that we saw in the in the dot com mobile to give you an idea in the dotcom bubble. Small business optimism peaked at about 25% saying this was a good time to expand during the 0406. Puritan about 25% against that this was a good time to expand so businesses now are the most optimistic that they have been in the last 28 years and banks are finally in a position where they can actually comedy does business owners with wolves the problem is there aren't enough workers to go around and those that's not classy problem and how well it is except it leads to this inflation. It and and I'm OK with that and I like if it's wage inflation. I I think that's very health it's not demand driven though it's not just people need more goods in May need more services in and we can't do that now. No idea I I look at the demand for services as being a good thing for the blue collar worker. Because a lot of that the services that are in demand truck or for that work try hiring tree guy to just watch out on this now watch out we'll we'll keep an eye and it by the way folks the Dow's up five points. There's a lot every week had residents and four main buckets. If an immediate annuity where you give insurance kept reminding guarantee pension yet fixed annuity which is just a predetermined rate for a predetermined time. It index annuity and variable annuity in those two become a little bit more complicated. When we talk about the different kinds of annuities. Which ones might be more appropriate for someone who wants to take on a little bit of risk in order to get some additional growth. Well variable annuity typically is one where you take on more risk you're basically investing in different types in the market. With some guarantees attached to them whereas an indexed annuity you have no potential for a loss. Bucks you have limited upside potential as well in a fixed annuity is probably most similar to what we see with they CDS certificate of deposits except it's not FDIC insured and absolutely correct usually the terms are a little bit longer than a traditional CD usually won't see for instance a six month fixed annuity for your generals. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Start off this hour of this show with a conversation about the Amazon in the city of Seattle Amazon has a lot of power across the country. Probably no more power in anyone's city and Seattle explains talking about. Chick filet. Two trucks delight has an entire secret menu that was an affair with you. And then finally used car prices are on realize how come hi everybody it's very truck with you here. I'll tell you this story about Seattle. Just a couple of weeks ago I feel like the at where we announced the City Council in Seattle Washington. Decided to tax employers'. Her head in order to a comedy can take care of homelessness. Yet this was a tax that would have fallen on businesses generating more than twenty million dollars a year in revenue. And so there were 585. Businesses in the city that would've gotten wrapped up in this in had to pay 275. Dollar per employee tax. And would do of ended up. Likely costing somewhere in the ballpark record of the chamber congressman 141000 jobs. And they were expecting this to raise about 47 million dollars in revenue each year. They have backed off well. And they backed off because the businesses. Collected signatures and you're gonna have demanded referendum on the issue in November and they knew they were gonna win. I'm always amazed when. Instead of taxing wealth after it's created. We continue to try to tax wealth creation and say we we don't want. We we want to create an incentive to not be a certain size or not grow to a certain size. For whatever reason in the United States we've. Looked at the distribution of wealth and say that the solution is get rid of him in there has never. At eight you've you've met politicians you you've met city councilors Writely you make if you spend time with these people. Truck they'd never for the most part they've never run a business. The biggest cyclic when you look at why are our friend Josh say the right he's a city councilor in Boston good guy but he's never run. He's never had to make payroll Brady's he's never run a hundred million business before. No but look at it from this perspective if you are trying to. Turned into a good good example let's say you're trying to wad grow crops yeah okay. You don't go and say OK before I've you've been collected anything I'm gonna go and pull up some of my seeds just because I'd need to be able. To do something also look at what you're going to have lower yields instead of saying pay after I grow these white and I take some of the fruit that's produced it takes some of the seeds from those fruits and actually use them for what I needed them railway tie. Grow it in then you say OK now we can solve the distribution issue on the back end. UV you're you're missing the point here in the point is. Politicians now it's becoming perfection. If it used to be. You know a butcher guy running a butcher shop would run for office and still run as butcher shop and and but he did he would work is a city councilor. While he's running his butcher shop. Now you've got guys that yeah they graduate from law school saying why wannabe professional politician that I think therein lies the problem. It gave it could be I don't know where this specific issue is but I think you'd need more people with prior anti Nazi you have to necessarily run a business. But maybe instead of being a lifelong politician. You over east to be a schoolteacher were you still are schoolteacher. You know lately you look at how many of our state reps that's their job used it to be a politician. Not that way in New Hampshire New Hampshire it's like volunteer position I. I don't have strong feelings necessarily on BO what people should or shouldn't do when they're running for office is think one of the nice things we can kind of pick and choose you know on it might be that we choose poorly but that's kind of an us problem not a house that you know that that that's more on us that we're picking badly not on that the bad candidate was running. Tripoli subprime company and at camp by the yes. AD evidently having secret menu we hear you're big typically stand side by Israel side about this story I think their stuff that is mediocre and could never had a it's it's OK Tucker is like a lot of delete white bread. Around this small piece of chicken that's very unit as I said it all know where you've had the breakfast biscuit that's the only and then and I had this smile sees this is huge spicy chicken sandwich and surprise it today where you know I take mcdonalds overture the that's us. That's just I think eyes. Almost old set of sharks had a with the right. I could not return my Mike off you don't say something that's getting big and I'm like off big Mac large prizes strawberry shake and I'm happy and fat. Nice of what's sinful ways that they don't don't let's not let's diet for kids like it strawberry shake. Don't think they did where you know they have some kind of shake that I don't know what I've I forget I've I don't really shaken chicken at the same time I kind of separate those two and but the spicy menu they got things on here that look pretty good number one you get bacon anything at breakfast which did Bacon's always good let's say that your in the mood for little buffalo chicken. Now okay it's not on many Dickinson wants to buffalo sauce on the that you know okay. They do a fried chicken club okay it was pretty nice in odd that the net pretty solid Brett. It is thank you Tucker that's a lot of Brad. Carts they do well a spicy chicken egg and cheese bagel breakfast which pretty good from and then chicken on anything at breakfast is well suited for these things aren't on the menu. Why don't they put him on the menu at a lot of places that do stuff like fidelity and Alpert a lot of fast food places have like the secret menu that if you order only gives the number Donnelly illegal eight or do today. You know they they kind elected do those things for people who if frequent them and just feel like is that Playskool. Something secret wire used car prices on the rise I would think in the it's not like we're having difficulty manufacturing. New ones. He did yeah the new car prices are used car prices I was surprised by this dollar amount. The average transaction price Tucker for a used vehicle was close to 20000 bucks seems high for you in Erfurt in the first and doesn't. A neat little bit. Did you buy new carpet. It seems like people are buying more these lightly used vehicles that might only have 20000 miles lands and on and start doing I I've I think I'd sir I am. Think I'm swearing off new cars I looked at the in order it was I looked at the depreciation and the car and drive I drive a car that's two years old time. It's 22 years did little more than two years just a few months 2016. And that our cars gunned down by by 50% there. It is still got tons of files left. Aria you know we have. The other reason why you're seeing huge car prices going up actually is is people appear to be somewhat price sensitive to. Gas prices and and so you're actually seeing additional demand for smaller vehicles now. But companies aren't making as many of them bright and so there's nobody wanted them when gas was a dollar 99 gal in so people are trying to trade in some of the crossovers and suvs they've bought for the last couple you're saying hey I need something smaller so. Maybe this is a good time for me to buy a used truck. Maybe Ed I'd like I was like definitely I had an F 150 and my son. Absconded with once they stole content. I gifted. It he's driving in I don't I was an involuntary gift of one of those things. Start though landscaping business. To know well it's for good cause. Tough par around you know I'll know he works and it network exactly. Put it this way I would not want it back. Now Erica body's destroyed. That'll happen but it's. What's interesting is that you know you had four come out a couple what probably month ago did you out of the snow and we don't want to remake of stands anymore and and that's this isn't consumers' tastes change from time to time on this stuff is based on the price of gas is gas is like nobody does but I see it over three bucks and Lotta place everywhere. It's I've been seen gas below three dollars now he's in a talker nose guard is Tucker. Tucker never paid I paid two C 85 yesterday's that's what does attend yeah I went I untitled Jimmy's in Woburn. As I paid cash. Ash I used by stoppage opera awards thank you very much about that all of that was in the listed price it was divorced 29. Aussie tennis that's up ten cents offered if I don't but I haven't seen a lot of 305307. To try and I try Connecticut shore. Because they know it's fraud happens on the shore is everybody's drive and up from New York where they're driving back from the cape and get off. Their pain like 33340. It's it's nuts. They're paying you look at that New London area I I can't believe what they're paying for gas. Still looking for a that the cheapest gas in new England and again this is for Alia let me guess. It's in New Hampshire yet I'm gonna say he'd natural. Nope just norsk. Stars out of the bill now count up towards the lakes region. Rents are still growing much faster than wages even as growth cools slightly surprised that rents are going up because. Where as I. Drive around I see the construction of a lot. Apartment building seems like it doesn't yet so wait like weird. How these people coming from and how could afford 3000 bucks a month. If you ever see in view of that. Yet it did not building you know low cost you know Needham median income rentals and stuff like that it's all high end stuff you want one of those raised Avalon isn't that the name Avalon is a big builder in New England anyway of these apartment buildings. And I looked him truck and I Natalia. Easy you know one studio or one bedroom European debt for 2200 if you go to two bedroom unit or three bedroom unit when placing your talk and three grand and higher. And and part of it might be there's a little bit of lag on this in terms of you know when you first open a new building even if you're not occupied up to you know 85% or when you want to be. You might say okay we can keep our rents here but you might see some of these start ticking down in an attempt to get occupancy at some point. So what are the back in the day what would happen is you would build apple one would build out on apple but company would build out an apartment building like that than him convert it to condominium. You think that's the end game here. See you. You you build it out your rent it for five years ten years. And they knew go to the tenants and you say hey we're gonna give you an insider price you can by the unit you've been paying rent and been paid us three grand a month in rent. Will you buy that unit for four underground you might see some of it. You know you might see some of it there but it. Three for the owner's cash out there it is I edges. Get that tax benefits up for the puddles on the efficiently a lot of people who were renting can't buy that's why they're renting now. You know it with me in with how high some of these prices are. I don't know of condos are affordable for you know they know it's you kind of it and you're damned if you do damned if you don't situation got. Well rents are were are are rising one way try to buy something he can't. Move over June brides the most popular wedding dates of 2018. Will surprise you and October 20 I am surprised. I went to one last year and I MI out to be pretty from a fall league standpoint is always did always beautiful model my sister analog of merit up in in Vermont than it was like perfect you know bright color October it was everything was just like Rick Redford you know and everything it's not like July and August when the geek as you got there in Dallas July 2 it check you got married in December. I did via. Winter wedding. The typically you do see the summer months being the most popular the reason October's kind of gaining ground. Is because not many people wanted to get married then and what venues would give big discounts offseason weddings and so that's why people started looking there but now it's become. Give one of the most popular months actually to get married in especially with only the trend towards lake. Rustic stuff and oh wanna have my wedding and a barn in this not even though you've never been in a barn in your life never milked a coward we have done anything like that you still wanna get married there and then. You you're seeing people moving that direction because Barnes looked nice in the fall and so okay great waffle. The other top wedding date struck car in September. Labor Day weekend I'd say it was a 1 August 18 we have some well I guess that makes sense because your summer weekends are soul. And use what it in you don't have any kind of like we we haven't had one yet rate and woody maybe ten. Yet and twelfth last week on us in a summary at the unit it's it's a short season and if you've got kids in school. My wife will be playing much dollars so you just didn't do it ID add team from Iowa and zero in. I was older I was literally told what to Wear and went to show. A good way to go about it it's a great way I highly recommend a thought about solar power it is overtaking gas and weaned. As the biggest source of American power. Yet this is the source of in the in the first quarter developers installed 2.5 megawatts of solar in the United States up 13% from a year earlier. And that was 55% of all new installed generation. Ian the in the first quarter and so. You did see a big shift up here is being held back a little bit by some increased costs due to what change in the tax code as well some tariffs on imports solar panels via. But still. It is you know again a major source of new generation still aid a drop in the bucket. When it comes to was the energy production in the United States. In terms of total power produced yet if if you go through and a pull up the numbers now just because the trends the last ten years of still been you know somewhat shocking actually. Watch as far as just and how things have good parties have been critical. Which is ruled there. Yep you you Coles gone from being about 50% of our power out on June 30 it's down around and trying to give the exact numbers you know I have Munster a year ago. Cole is now let's see 30% in 2017. Let's see newly general read about a new coal plant you know Padilla. No you you don't and Hydro was still about seven and a half but the big optics wind is now six point 3% that's up from zero in 2000. And Sowers at one point 32% that's up from half a percent just three years ago so they're grown pretty quickly at this point. And the biggest source of fuel right now is Nat gas which is 32% of our power production in the last. What is the biggest health risks facing eight truck driver. I've oaks is chuck and Mike from the financial exchange we're talking this month about annuities and specifically. To our strong advisory group got the truth about annuities Mike. Let's talk first about some of the benefits of annuities when it comes to tax deferral that's probably one of the main advantages that you get through the use of an annuity. Correct I mean if you think about it traditional investment lets you go out in your bias CD that's paying you 3% interest. You're paying taxes on that interest on your 1040 every single year. With an annuity you might be able to get that same 3% rate of return. But all the taxes are deferred and he decide to take that money that can't be an advantage for somebody in high tax bracket today. Other benefits that are on their you have the ability at these writers either income benefits or death benefits on our and that's where things get a lot more complicated and it's very much dependent on each individual situation. Yet there are writers on there that can guarantee you that you get a certain amount of income for the rest of your life. But depending on your own current income situation that may mean up valuable there are things like death benefits and market protection. All sorts these different things to be written into these contracts but they do come at a cost. The downside due duties the two biggest reasons that people have issues with the sometimes. They do lock your money up for long periods of time was surrender charges some of the newer products are able to reduce or in some cases eliminate those. And also you do have to worry a little bit about taxation on the back and taxed at ordinary income rates as opposed to at capital gains rates folks all this information and more. Is included in our new guide the truth about annuities gives you all the pros and cons all the different types of annuities out there. All you have to do to get it is call 803934001. Samuel Osgood an American merchant and statesman. Born in North Andover Massachusetts served as the first president of the city Bank of New York. His family homes still stands at 440 are as good street in North Andover. I lost the winner put it down outside. We we do have a winner in our winner is taking almost fifty dollar gift certificate Arnold's lobster and clam bar I don't know who the winners but they're getting this fifty dollar gift certificate it's gonna be lovely. And guy worked hard to win yet does wonders what are you Watson I know you listen you got a bit of recognition he's there now Jim this afternoon you justice say hey you know I'd just I get it true. It was. Mall that this and I put it down outside it's my fault so truckers let's talk about truck drivers. One would think that the biggest health risk facing eight truck driver. Would be an accident right he needs sale and that that's a real risk. In and truck drivers have. You know dangerous jobs in drive and Evey now and you know they weighed 80000 pounds forty tons recounts that's not the year the biggest risk be seen. Truck drivers no big thing is that you're effectively sedentary all day you are sitting for your entire shift just about. And then when you do get out who was stopped to rest up for food feared being one of the long ball guys. You're pretty much limited to McDonald's Arby's chick filet Jack in the Box you know all the and upheld that he's got good for him. And so it's it's really a problem there simply because it's it's very rare there healthy options and a lot of places to eat. Tucker get this. Nearly seven at a ten truck drivers were obese and 17%. Of truck drivers are morbidly obese which is defined. As 100 pounds. Over your ideal witness according to CDC will. It's not really a surprise visit just because they just sent. That's not their fault it's just the turn on active well here's the numbers they'd be among all working American adults 13 are obese compared to 70% for truckers. And 7% are morbidly obese compared to 17%. For truckers so the risk of being obese is due February tractor not only is he in and here's another stat. More than half of truckers are currently cigarette smokers. General population I thought the numbers down about 50% of known popularly this article saying it's 19% but I think that's wrong. In nearly two thirds of long haul truckers reported having one of the following risk factors. Hypertension. Obesity smoking high cholesterol no physical activity. And six or fewer hours of sleep for 24 hour period. Tough job good (%expletive) up the the the they need to be paid more. Only if you're gonna take a job like that and there's a shortage of the I always get a kick as a shortage of truck are the pace of more. Yeah this authority to wage I know how supply and demand works if you raise the supply is in terms of money you're going to get more like they're going to be more in demand like that's how works with. Cracks me to speak on one. Americans spend this is sad this is a sad state. Our our country. Americans spent a record 36 billion dollars on video games last year my business that. It's a waste of time perhaps not. Video video games have changed from the days of you know La Nintendo pong and everything like I just played Mario Brothers yeah merry Brothers like now a days. That's how a lot of those. Yes thank you that's how a lot of kids. Socialize. And they're playing with each other not just sitting in arm you know dark basement playing. Video games from themselves are all on their headsets talking and interacting with one dollar and sitting. Sure they're sitting but that's up to the parents' discretion to tell them to get their ass is outside this contributing factor to the declining birthrate. Actually rolling out. In Japan there's a lot of thought that this is Jessica's kids are spending so much time there I'd rather play video games than it does their player problem. You know some of the kids that point eight to fourteen hours a day went in in here's the thing to as the parenting issue all it totally theirs is being put this in perspective. We've got what about a 120 million households in the US. 300 dollars a year. Per household but it'll let a lot of money but 36 billion U say 36 billion like all the world's. It's 300 bucks a year but it's going up look at it's it's the content it's like technologies get better. Now he's just just nights I am like I used to really get. I've been raised kids and it. With if I saw them playing the fight if my perception was my kids were playing video games too much I would I would disabled she. And it for for a long period of time not that not for like a week Marie but let me put this in perspective though okay easily parents need to do they need to can't video games I think our help that. I don't disagree it would it depends on like anything's it'll sap and health hazard if you do it too much OK. I tend to be addictive. But it appears that the NBA games are not inherently bad justly movies aren't inherently bad justly exports are inherently bad it's about how you use them in your balance okay. I've played a ton of video games growing patents granted it's screwed me up to a certain extent has it made me the person I am today. But actually it's not something I'm not sitting here morbidly obese. I was able to find someone who could at least tolerate me enough to marry me like it didn't ruin my life now now OK there's things that ruin people's lives are you know drugs and alcohol on the slate now don't do things that when you're right I'd rather have my kids playing video games in drinking dared to wonder if the worst thing you do is you go home to play call of duty for two hours. Hey it's not great but that's the problem it's not two hours it's eight hours. Well for some people but like you can say that about anything there's some people who now I go out yesterday had a double cheese or. I probably have another one all summer but lately it's it's that's why yes death life. You and I don't buy here he was a good one to it was a good one on the tele five guys know I know I'll inaugural to myself now I hop. Even though this thing was professional quality output some formalized on these on their little blue cheese spicy now. And when we tell him folks if if you're anything like me you've watched president trump lay out his agenda very carefully over the last year. Because you know that the decisions that he makes may affect you and I am a fiduciary which means I make decisions that are in the best interest of my clients many of whom. And I have not reached out to Larry as a yet I will over the weekend. But apparently it was a very mild heart attack and he's recovering quite well. And is planning to get back to work which I'm a little bit surprised that they I have to. I wonder. I just wonder if his wife doesn't step in and say hey my you know you've served your country. This is second time around for him serving his country yet and I I'm not sure or that his wife pulled stepped in he'd let the problems. He loves this. He'd be this he was meant to do this. But you're going to school at night and you end up getting a degree in computer science. Well if I'm your manager and I see that you're getting good grades you're working hard you're performing well in your function. I'm gonna say to the computer science that you gotta hire this guy EU EU you write it it's. Yeah well it needs it's not just hey you can give this benefit that'll keep the employer there's so you give them but you still to provide the opportunities that employ to grow and do things they want do you know that's it's good news. So that avengers movie. Hit a two billion dollar mark. Joyce on the line those Jonathan Wallace from morning star Jonathan thanks for joining us. It out of me greatly appreciate it absolutely Johnston what fund re talking about today. Fidelity puritan. And what exactly stands out about this bond deal. It's and well it it it has been excellent track record but it also has excellent management as a very nice investment process with it. So a lot of signs at all in our fifty to 70% equity group the neutral position is that 60% equity and 40% fixed income. But he experienced management Rabin O'Reilly he's the lead manager on despite. His ability to just be equity allocation and he sees opportunity. Tilly PPH from net sixty to 6040 allocation. So to give you an example but I'm currently has about two thirds of equity as they see that there's a little bit more opportunity in equity right now than. But be fixed income leave. Which consists mostly of investment grade and about. 5% of the fund that invested in on high yield debt is also banished by experienced editors Michael Clayton Hartley right. And so so the but has a nice process. As experienced management and the under is actually landed in its on its upbeat Balata peer group. That he'd cut the benchmark and it's typical here quite quite heavily over the. Here's Jonathan is this fund purely investing inside the United States does have international components is well. And that's a great question on it typically has averaged about 5% of the portfolio. As bad overseas so that's typically where they eat that they think that the neutral positioning as I respect international. But they will adjust that upward downward if they see opportunities overseas. What kind of expenses are associated with owning this fund anything up front or on the back into what kind of ongoing expenses. That's also excellent question on your listeners aren't despite his very reasonably priced that it is littered the prop positive price or for Morningstar. A the prices are very reasonable it's 55 basis points per investor shares but the no load by. I'm no load on the front and Nolan on the back and and it's just 55 basis point expense. Where the for the investor shares there's an institutional share class out there a price a little bit lower 46. But most most investors are gonna go in that investors shared it if he basis points. Where do you see this fitting into someone's portfolio. This is a really good bye and force somebody who wants BP. What I would eat moderately aggressive if it is I find this an individual wanted out of that allocation ego somewhere between you know. State sixty cute baby. 70% equity and yet it'll adjust itself a little bit but it that this you know one of their simple things are one of the apple in the portfolio. It's certainly appropriate and when investors should also be aware of is that the equity style lean towards growth. So as a result on the funded. You know benefited you know in recent years because that's gross biased though it would trail in a market like let's say 2016. Where. Where value has battle that that are sort of good core holding a portfolio either as you know majority holding more you know you can build them. Things around if you wanted to do well. Very good Jonathan thank you for the time today. Saturday that's Jonathan Wallace from morning start talking about the fidelity puritan fund the ticker on that by the way is FP you are acts I've always liked balanced. Bonds and you know alive who it when my kids were younger their friends. Knew that that was an investment advisor says they say to me well where you know IC 5000 dollars so what should I do it. The most said you know ate it and never gave them a specific about it well. Come back to knowing uterus searched three different balanced mutual funds these are kids that didn't these are high school that didn't know what about mutual fund via. They looked it up the invested in it and I've had a number of them come back to mean currently twenties and thanking me because they've grown so nicely yeah and you know what I like about it is they're gonna lose money in a down market but not as much. Jaded business groups communiques which you know in their first investigated at great first investing experience any of a balanced mutual fund some people should take a look at. Our poll question today it was have you ever taken money out of your retirement plan early 41% of you have I'm surprised that it might have been a little bit higher than that.
