This is the financial exchange with the very Armstrong and shops and a exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day you're simply too world stay informed and today about economic and market trends plus breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with Barry Armstrong and shocks. This second. Hope we can April is just about wrapped up here and as we start to. No make you turn towards being a third of the way through the year. Markets are finally moving back into positive territory for the year it's taken us a little while to get there. And there's no guarantee that we stay there. But we do see a little bit of stability this week potentially brewing in the markets jerks out of we got Peter Howe in today for Barry Armstrong we got Tucker still overrun in the show just as he does every single day. Start off with a little bit and doing good news today. Specifically on the casino side of things the story that Wynn Resorts. Is apparently in preliminary talks Peter. With MGM in order to sell the license to their every casino and sell that to see you know to MGM. Yeah a remarkable piece of news first broke by the Wall Street Journal yesterday in the Boston Globe strip across the top of page one. In this would be huge because you're talking about basically up ending the entire casino structure before any of these casinos even open and GM. Building a big beautiful casino and Springfield and they would under the law have to sell that license if they buy. The win license in Everett and then who buys MGM and Springfield. What becomes of the win site and I think you know a big part of what was so appealing about win before we. Learned about the dark side of the man and the company was the idea there's going to be a global. Premium brand bringing people and you're talking Wynn Resorts is is high quality high class resorts. And MGM certainly good quality but it doesn't have the same cachet that the Wii name does in that business exactly and you know you they eat the image was. Billionaire's fine and from China to come to the Boston. Casino and you know come up the we always joke that they were drafted company special boats would only have windows on one side. Logan come up beat and you would see the beautiful Boston skyline and your left and you wouldn't see via oil tanks and East Boston waterfront on the other. Looking. At this point the first thing that came to my mind was obviously you know MGM because the way the states licenses are drawn up. A casino operator can only operate one casino in the states MGM would have to sell Springfield but Corey and doing so. I look at this MGM started hiring in Springfield already in a big job for at their at it about two weeks ago. Beyond that. You know that they're building both these casinos. You've got it it kind of reminds me of you remember when the Fleetcenter was a Richard. We've sent to guard was originally going to be the Shawmut center. Then it became the Fleetcenter in a and they had all these seats that had you know the Shawmut had on them they had to pull the seat seven redo them. There's an awful lot of branding the target happened. Out in Springfield is there's branding the scheduled to happen in Everett. I wonder if that pushed back the opening on these casinos because. You sit there and you say okay we can't just open exactly what was gonna be open for an MGM referral win because we're changing ownership and changing the brand. We may have to make changes. That could take some time although you know with the amount of money that's imported into these casinos they wanna open as soon as they possibly closer you know where's it at the Everett site. It's an incredible number three million dollars a day that they're spending on construction payroll. You know supplies chump change it is good it is tremendous it's it's you know one of the best things that ever happened in the construction trades. In Boston. And you know until they had that terrible fatality last week unfortunately bit you know it's been. A lot of work that's been done and until then you know with a great safety record and made a lot of people a lot of money. Looking at this you know in terms of you know that the timeline for this happening it seems like you know we heard rumors of this may be about a week ago so it seems like things are moving quickly. I imagine they wanna get this wrapped up this as soon as possible so that they can move forward with some clarity yet and the great uncertainty year's masters gaming commission which. Wants to conduct act they are rightly. Feeling terribly embarrassed incredible egg on their face that they. You know spent four million dollars and suitability review of win and the wind company and never found any of these allegations of sexual misconduct and Steve went pressuring employees and having sex Steve when paying people laugh Steve Winslow of children. And some gaming commission. Win and MGM wanna get this wrapped up as fast as possible the gaming commission wants to. Really conduct as full investigation as they possibly can. And that's what really to your point earlier throw such a wrench into things. To have MGM move from. Building and and outfitting Springfield casino. Buying the license at the other end of the state Aaliyah and everything goes into incredible answer well in the question that I have is who buys that license out in Springfield. Is that there aren't that many big casino operators out there has been so much consolidation in the space there's only a few names. And I partly wonder who winds up getting that license out in Springfield and does this open the door for someone like a fox which he can to get back into the Massachusetts Mark Ellis just about says that is I'll tell you otherwise. Those places are gonna be hurt a whole lot. Once you get both of these facilities up and running. Yeah attitude you know it's a declining market and it's zero sum game at this point it's everybody's there's so let each others like we've already had Caesars thrown out as unsuitable by the gaming commission. When they were going to be involved in the Suffolk downs casino bid somebody's brother in line knew what mobster in the Netherlands or something crazy. But the at your point I'd always those Dutch mobsters that get I don't I don't think. Sheldon Adelson is aching to on a casino in Springfield. Know that it doesn't really personally that it no disrespect to Springfield but it's it just doesn't seem like his type thing right. So will continue to monitor that obviously seems like there's some traction moving forward. At this point there. Also some news yesterday with regards to over a US judge down in Philadelphia. US district judge Michael Bay a season. Said yesterday that were does not exert quote enough control efforts drivers. In order for them to be considered employees. Rather they are classified as contractors and he says that appropriate cost Haitian. The surprise here would have been if the judge ruled that they are employees because it's a very flexible arrangement you drive when you want. You pull off the road of a cigarette when you want you really are your own. Boss with numbers even if and you know it it looks like in some ways you're an employee but this scene and and what you're take chuck is but the it seem to me this came out of the replace. You know. I go back and forth on it simply because while I do think that there are big parts of it the ability to set your own schedule. The ability to choose which rides are actually going to take first is not take their their big parts of it bit. Lean towards the contractor side. On the other side of things your rates are set. The state which need operative cars is it fixed you know you you have certain things that are laid out in terms of how you do business I go back and forth on in general. I tend to think that they probably are close to contractors but. It's it's in such a gray area that I don't think there's anything that definitively points and BO one particular way partly. The way the laws are written on this topic. They never envisioned something like this being possible through the other the laws regarding employee vs contractor. In that they were Britton sixty years ago whose World War II pretty much when these were you know. Don't even had the idea for an iPhone or something like that so I think part of it is it and we see this often I mean we've talked about it with FaceBook recently. The legislation that we see often. Lags what we actually see from how companies excused their businesses. On their rose regulators. Legislators or recent keep up with the business models will tell you feared as somebody who. Watch around downtown Boston all the time the over drivers EC on the streets of Boston do not look like well trained police. The answer Paul and stop in the middle of the block. Weird you turns hazards are on hazards and I see people you know going up one way streets the runway all the time and the police officers are. Always they see somebody doing something stupid so Alia they're goes in overdrive that there is. Also Wilbur coming out and the CEO Derek has were shot he. So they are staying committed to their self driving program even after. The death of a pedestrian was struck by one of those vehicles and Arizona last month. But he called the Vic cars at this point I said right now the self driving cars are learning they are student drivers. Get what he's trying to say I'm not sure that. He really needed to go down that road there maybe not the best sound bite out of the CEO and there are no it's just like wit. Wind when you have someone who's died as a result of your technology. I get that the impulses to defend the technology. But you just gotta kinda some crow and say look we messed up on this one Blake. You eat you have to just put off defending yourself for the. I don't what he's trying to say in I don't give them the vehicles learning sure but. You know if you say a student driver only got an instructor and they're ready to slam the brakes if a you know persons crossing the road in the student driver temperate. And again look if you wanna say look we're committed in and we're gonna work to continue these okay great but thank. Again that term student driver it's just I can see how it gets people. Kind of buzzing you know when when we hear that it is true the you've got human beings killing 40000 human beings. Yeah our cars and I don't know if if if we get a report every time a human struck another human. We we got to meet up two hours Alicia we our press gallery so now we do an eight hour show so. This is the problem is not that this self driving vehicle hit a person we know that that's obviously not intended. The problem I think is just they get it it's kind of just. PR 101 you like what's up with when death is involved. Just you have to just take responsibility you can't try to defend yourself that you just have to kind of move on and in India with that mistakes were made. Let's let's take a quick break here and when we come back really talking. About the trans Pacific partnership whether or not the trop administration. Is going to be pushing the US back towards that partnership right after this break on the financial exchange radio network. Like us on FaceBook and follow us on Twitter that's TSE show. Some mixed messages sent yesterday. Today by the truck administration regarding Henry joining. The trans Pacific partnership TPP. In the morning we learned that he had potentially. Advised her instructed. Robber life Kaiser's the US trade representative as well as Larry Kudlow. To explore the possibility of re entering TPP. Then I believe was later last night we got kind of a walk back of that saying hey why we need to do this on Twitter. But it looks like there may be some some balls in the years as far as. They do we need to look into getting back into this system that was designed to stop the influence of China when now we're trying to stop the influence of China. It's too I think mixed messages is a very nice way of putting it check it's just more craziness out of this administration and they come up. And say something and it's like could be true could be made up could change in twelve hours but. To your point getting back into TPP in some form in a way that's Evan pages the United States does make all the sense in the world and it's. Kind of like why would you give this a way to China to dominate east Asian trade when you can have a seat at the table. The whole purpose of DPP and if if you're not familiar with the trans Pacific partnership. You can Google it or weaken do you actually talk about what it is right now it was supposed to be a coalition of nations. Led by the United States included the following countries as well Australia Brunei Canada. She lay Japan Malaysia Mexico New Zealand Peru Singapore and Vietnam. As well as Japan I mentioned pants are. And that the goal was to form a trade bloc to counter the influence of China now emphasis some block the other eleven countries. Have are in the process of ratifying this agreement right now the stolen and they're still working through it on a country by country basis Japan and New Zealand have ratified the other nine are still in in the process right now. But it's. The US pulled out shortly after the trump administration came into office. Put it seems like with this new week you know. Potential trade war that's developed between the US and China. They're looking at the same look maybe this thing wasn't so bad maybe we need to get back into this because it provides us some additional partnerships that could help us. Actually prevent Chinese influence from spreading. Trade is good and especially you know you look that was 212 countries. They can do interest in things. Among each other but leaving the United States the big Kahuna out of that PPP. Leaves you with the weigh less of you know the benefits from promoting more trade among these countries. And you know to my earlier point to lead in that time backing for China to fill Steve greeted me. Given the what the process would be to say oh by the way we actually wanna get back into this. Robert light has a picks up the phone and says oh by the way you wanna get back in this and yeah it only takes phone call and and they say okay all's forgiven. I think that there is a growing recognition. In the world that you've. There's a new craziness factor that you have to deal with with the United States negotiations and participation in global institutions and I think at the level of like Anheuser and the people who actually negotiate deals what you hear is. There's a new understanding and sort of sympathy for the United States that you get craziness at the top. But I think a deal absolutely can get done it makes all the sense in the world for a deal to get done and you can drive it to the right terms so that it's a good deal for the United States this brings us. To our poll question of the day up right now on financial exchange showed dot com should the US re enter. CPP to simple yes or no question you can head over to financial exchange show dot com if you like to participate that poll you can also text us your thoughts on it is well. At 63. 566 on the w.s text on you can text us your thoughts or you can go to financial exchange showed dot com. And you can vote as to whether or not you think. That the US should re enter CPP. A Sauna story regarding zillow Peter and it makes me wonder if we're starting to see a little bit of a real estate bubble again because the headlines is still intends to buy in flip homes. And I don't know it just seems when you have businesses that you know what they may be involved in the real estate business but it's not their core competency to be buying and flipping homes talking about buying and flipping homes. It seems to me you may not be you might have been the last stage of the bubble. But it might still be a bubble that built. While the best part is are gonna buy in for palms in Las Vegas and Phoenix. And this this is a great and then there was also a story which recovering right now subprime mortgages they got a new name Peter they re Brittan. They re branded sub prime mortgages this is the best thing ever what are they calling them non prime. Like. We were nothing. We've we've. Granted we're we're not doing these ninja loans anymore he's no Wes and knowing come no job verification loans which is a good thing those loans by the way if you're not familiar with the ninja loans. They were loans that banks would make or financial institutions would make where they would not verify a few that income. Assets or job they'd simply accept what you put on the application and not do any pol so at least we're not doing that anymore. But now you've got zillow saying look we want to buy and flip homes in some feel pretty volatile markets. And we've got sub prime loans coming back. Classify themselves as non prime because I get that makes a huge difference that non vs sub. It just feels like. I don't know maybe were in like 20052006. Were hey there might be a couple years left in the party but when you start seeing these things happening again you know the party's ending soon. I would say the one thing that zillow is tapping into is there is frustration and I think especially with the younger buyers at the content that time and complexity of selling home. And a lot of people who I think are willing to leave some cash on the table if they can just get out of the house now and get the money and move on to the next place. But it went eleven and my wife and I almost joked we've got to house them you know three kids have moved out. And we talk about selling. The promise would have to clean up the basement. So that's the no more reason and that does put a spell think and think about the time and compelling how bad is the basement. I don't go down there it's can you get down there is the first yes you can can get down there and it's not my stuff. There's an error. It's never hears stuff it's three kids stuff. Birds never yours stuff. I dressed man in my basement yet yes you know it's it's all here it's a classic not my problem typing even though it's always our problem but. I just. I don't know some of these things Ian. In the housing market. I think it is still going to be on a regional level where you see these bubbles popping up I think were somewhat stable in New England just because of the the businesses that are moving into the area at the moment. But some of the stuff it just. I don't know maybe I'm just still little you know. Traumatized from what happened back in 2008 to 2009 but I I see things like you know sub prime just coming out and re branding is non prime loans exceed. Yeah people getting into flipping homes and I just. It makes me nervous it's time for the big short all over again did you see any of the stuff from it was I think over last week India real estate conventional in Toronto or wherever was Tucker do you see any of that I did not where they had up people talking about how to football you hit the it was like Pitt does it was hip bones and apple Stallone talking about how to make money in real estate. And while RG people speak it the best part of it was the tickets through this thing originally a 149 dollars in by the day of the discounted them to 49 dollars. To go to this this thing where now people Sylvester Stallone tells how I realized they. Still way too line. Time now for street watch a look at the market's performance so far today you don't Marion jog right here on the financial exchange radio network. Michael Armstrong joins us now from Wall Street wants and Mike let's talk a little bit about Qualcomm to start off today. Yes so Qualcomm the former chairman Paul Jacobs talked to investors about potentially taking the company private. Still determined at this point stock is up is up more this morning is up right now forty cents that recorded 1%. Looking at this this sectors old we've seen the potential for mergers for awhile now and Qualcomm have been right in the middle and correct. They have innovator and pretty deep discussions that brought come before the US government stepped in and where did that. So we've seen a lot about that Broadcom and also in the news today. There'd be announcing a pretty big stock buyback program. About twelve billion dollars in stock buyback stocks that pretty significantly here again you know companies that are of the more cash on the balance you try to figure out what to do with the Sox up 3%. We also obviously had all the big error few of the big banks are pouring JPMorgan's. You the as well as Wells Fargo. Overall sectors down right now to digest that there are some very very high expectation to these back in Poland might be short expectation. Very good thank you Mike. That is Mike Armstrong with Wall Street watched. Story out of us CNBC. Talking about how credit scores may start moving up the spot Peter. You know this and we we're kind of trying to figure out what was going on but I think you're pretty good take. So this is what's gonna happen is all information about tax means is gonna get stripped out of credit reports. Some circulation average scores go up maybe thirty points a lot of what were people who qualify for is not a non prime loans from your new non prime. Loan agency there but the V my interpretation is. That there's enough. Or roaming is information out there for a tax liens that it takes a one time for. Tax agencies to discharge them and courts to. Process the paperwork and so if 102030%. Of the taxing information is an accurate why not throw all taxing information out of the system. And just focus on everything else in calculating credit credit scores and so looking at this it looks like some scores to rise as much as thirty points based on. These tax liens being removed here and again the problem is not that you know some people had tax liens it's rather. What people they may have already been cleared off but they just never never could get them off the report for one reason or another. Yeah it does tend to worry me a little bit. You know not to stated to make a bleep it if tax cheats. Can now get loans more easily I don't think that's good for the system. Wouldn't most lenders to do some kind of the background check on that beyond just credit reporter something like I mean you'd think there'd be more than just you know going to experience in OK what what things look like you would hope so but you know to bid. Mr. drag him up before the break. You know the resurgence of non prime loans and you know zillow getting into flipping houses it just does feel like there's some laxity. Creeping back into the system and lessons we learned the hard way in 2008 are being consciously and learned. Folks if you are a landlord or defined an easier way to collect rent payments and need to hear about leader bank's online red collection product called C ranked. It is a great service for landlords allowing them to collect tenant's rent payments electronically at Z rent dot net with out the need to collect checks. Most landlords use local neighborhood banks to do their business. And now a collection of local banks are offering this unique program including leader bank in stone a bank member FDIC. If you are a landlord your interest in having your bank acquired as he ran technology. Helmut Kohl is he ranked team at 781641. 8691. Today that 7816418691. Or visit C rent dot net I was thinking back about that. The zillow story that they may be getting into the that house flipping business right. Is this just where my mind goes on these things Peter so if they if it was it was getting into the house flipping business they could have. You know the subsidiary with the mascot to witches flip boat house flipping hip well. I'd like it. Talker like if it's it's kind of a tongue twister but I got it out all on 11 fell swoop wise there have Bo I was in the the early the mascot presume those housewares it has holes could be flip vote the house flipping hippo. The the stretch I think it. Just gave it away this segue into our next door where John Boehner started marijuana company a Alia. From her low to Mary game music it was not starting a marijuana company but rather John Boehner former Republican speaker of the house. Along with bill weld former governor of Massachusetts. They are joining the advisory board of the company called acreage holdings who owns campus licenses. In thirty different states where candidates approved for medical or recreational use bill weld giving it a pot Ike's eye kind of sad that coming John Boehner inning and a pot. That was a little more surprise I see him on CNBC this morning he looked happy as a clam you know after all he's been through with speaker and the freedom caucus and there's a guy deserves to spark up a bone to chill out if you're speaker of the house you gotta get the sense that some days we sit there and Seiji the doses of marijuana become a nice right about. 6 AM or something like the you wake up some mornings and just like. Anything to go into work anything to go to work. I can't do it anymore and John Boehner is famous quote he once that I need this job like a hole in the head. But this. Really speak to marijuana is coming and it's big time big time industrial marijuana you know we're gonna see. Possibly as soon as July recreational. Shops opening in Massachusetts to. Sohn dispenses and you know beat them as of may when what do you think it's good when he gets bad. There is a big move coming and billions of dollars he made in medical and recreational one there are only. Four states right now by the way that don't have candidates legalized and in the any form all of you wanna take guesses as to what those four states shore. Mr. south Carolina's one note released after of one it is legal for medical use them. Let's see year. Alabama no. North Dakota. No but you close South Africa yes south Dakota's one. Not a states again. So the viewer topped the four state or Utah at ticket no Utah it is legal for medical use believe it or not the four states in which candidates is not allowed for any purpose at all. South Dakota. Nebraska. Kansas and Idaho. Idaho. Those the four states where you can use if for any any any way at all now. The the states where it is legal at this point. We know we're up 2123456789. States now where it is legal including three in New England. Massachusetts Vermont and mean. But you know you continue to see a whole bunch of other states. Even decriminalizing it there's an additional. Looks like twelve states where it's decriminalized so. I mean I have to think we're within five years been being. It's certainly you know Jeff Sessions makes a menacing noises about continued to to prosecute but hasn't done anything at least big time marijuana traffickers but it does seem like it's going that way and you know blood that are hated. It really is you're seen. On the medical side the alternative to OP woods and it's you'd wanna offers huge and is very positive you know it it's a potential way out of this horrible crisis that is killing people every day of the week round and. That's why would sharp with those less than five years chart to be honest just because of Buick Open your crisis. Well you hope it's less than five years out I just don't know if it's going to law moved act quickly let's let's talk about this UMass and out a way to deal which. As you described during one of our breaks Peter seems to be getting just about everyone in state of Massachusetts sent out Marty Meehan has totally. Stuck his finger and took its. You've got a situation where UMass Amherst is spending seven million dollars to buy campus in Newton. Just miles away from UMass Boston why what's their thought. The it's murky they talk about this becoming home for UMass team are students while they are doing internships in the Boston area the problem is my Heidi is an eight terrible place would zero tree yet to get on a bus and take a ride twenty minutes across. Newton to then get on the tee today and spend 45 minutes getting into Boston could go over west works pretty good and commuter rail but it's just it's a terrible weird vocation. Two to have. Barton students do things in Boston radio it would be one thing if you said okay we want to buy you know the the former site of the atrium mall or something in order to get kids in the Boston or something like Beck is great there's. Transportation right they're pretty much it's another when you're you're buying you know pretty much this piece of land right next 128 bit. Doesn't really connect to anything. Speaking it very difficult to get the ear mount right you know it's wonderful once you make it but. Tremendously challenging to get there she go at UMass Boston furious why don't we get some of this money you get people out at Amherst furious. You get seven million dollars why are you spending and embarked in an odd in Amber's. You know you've got obviously that these kids it Mal I don't. Think about the kids who who have accepted our efforts to attend my died in September and find out. You know no more college for you and get a scramble. This spring to find some other place to go. And it just it feels like the rationale. Still. Hasn't come out for why you're doing this make sense empire building and you know if if you wanna have a nice place close to Boston. Two for alumni gatherings for. I get at it. It's like there's a little more trusting in Newton sometimes and and is in hammers but aside from that. It just seems like a deal that doesn't make sense and is blowing up on Marty Meehan all over the place do you think this ends up. Actually going through. You've got that's a very good question Turkey certainly seeing push back from legislators. Pushed back from the boards that oversee U mass and at this point it would be a terrible outcome from Oneida. To have yet another of their tegra emerging with the cell earlier in the spring I remember that and you know it's situation we're I'm just. Terrible uncertainty what ultimately happens to the students and faculty at mount Ida but your on a cent in the third could be enough political pressure pushed back. From enough quarters that you messy or tester rethink this. Another level this also gets it another topic that we've talked about an awful lot. With a lot of these smaller schools that still we know we're charging significant tuitions. They can't find people to go to them anymore. Not that it isn't closing because they had too many people who wanted to go there they're closing because they couldn't find people enough people to continue to operate the way they had previously. And there's pressure. On and so many colleges and I think people are seen. The student debt that people are loading up on and the Johnson they're getting it just is making people rethink. Should everybody really go to college or they're better alternative treats cool. A practice programs. Certificates. And in so on among them out item website right now you know they still have tuition listed for the fall. Probably edit that that they haven't taken it down. Like I don't know if this is something that they don't know but they haven't taken down the tuition for by the way tuition next year from outside a college. All in when you include tuition plus room and board 52000 dollars a year. While 52000 dollars. In and that's the thing is. I think a lot of these schools and again. Now I look at it is it's a good school but the question is is a 50000 dollar year school and I think they're getting the answer hate not a lot of people want to pay that much yet some good programs in for veterinarians forward at temple hi Janice. But I hate to see if there's a lot of Polly and not to single out matter but the notes is is that it's not them it's not their fault it's just people kind of sat there. What they can still scheduled tour. Yeah cubs reproduce well it's like a there's still a button to apply I can still applied amount I think like you would think that they would. Kind of take that down then I would I'd definitely were details that I explore Tucker I can replace a transfer student. I've folks it's very Armstrong in am joined today by estate planning attorney Todd lot ski with your legal exchange quick tip of the day were talking today. About the differences between revoke Kubel and irrevocable trusts. Todd what is the biggest difference between revolt global and irrevocable trusts probably the most commonly asked question never. Probably the death and first all I'm gonna tell you that there's many different kinds of irrevocable trust its not like just one kind and so that's what makes it hard to Germany. Would be at least try to. Bring it back down to what I think are asking me generally. Irrevocable trust their talking about are these Medicaid income only trusts now the ones are we try to protect assets from the nursing home. So if I was to compare that kind of an irrevocable trust with a revoke of trust and there really biggest differences. The irrevocable trust a protector lessons from the arsenal the Reebok of trust never will so why would somebody use a revolt global trusts. Over and you're vocal tracks there are times where people have either enough long term care insurance or plot may well or lots of wealth and end their self insured because they can pay their own way through the nursing home so I would say when he you have to have it if you like we define rich force I don't ask. 10000059. With the estate tax laws as high as they've exemptions have gone as high as they are I'd say you know 34 million dollars or less you can probably still going to be considering in your vocal trust if you're over age sixty. If you stay up through 4 AM yeah it was you know early morning mail that that's where the line between night and morning exists is 330 day yet. Never are on the range and what were you doing at 3:30 AM Jack studying studying hard. But there's a study out of Von Northwestern University as well as the university of is it is it certainly pierce or ray d.s series sir. In in the United Kingdom. What city. Investigate said he. They found out that they they were focused on about 430000 people. And they found that if you are a night owl trying to live in a world where you're often required to get up early and like myself. Currently have a 10% greater risk of dying in the morning people is you know like get up early I always kinda like staying up later better than getting up early down. So I stayed up till like 1 o'clock 1:30 AM last Friday and just like affected me like Monday Tuesday Wednesday this feels like to welcome you on middle age and I. It mess you up for like forties my thing that I used to and I graduated from college for about maybe two or three years I get home every day I take like a two hour now them and then they'd stay up to like 3 AM and then sleep for the rest of the night. Now it is like it was a weird schedule but it works for me that I just had to move off that you know had. Who had a pretty creative sleep schedule and coolest you'll resurgent. Dating on and noted I felt like I was gonna say Einstein. He would sleep two hours at a time and then you work pretty much continued to hit like point 47. I didn't sleep for eight hours in a row. Yeah just take shifts. It looks like it was yet Thomas Edison and Isaac Newton also logged did some interesting these asleep Winston Churchill to apparently was kind of a different sleepers while so. Maybe there's something maybe something to that like I've lost my edge a little bit. I don't know problem Picasso had a great way of taking an afternoon nap pizza at cheer. Holding a fork with a part played for. And you dose right at the moment the fall asleep you drop before it hits the likely you wake up and and your total for a minute ago really. The scene ever get at trial that you never ever after hi I'm an African Iraqi. But whenever I'm on an airplane trying to sleep my neck does that stupid thing no doubt where his years and a nod and all of sudden it wakes you up so into it everybody's looking at you doing Matt yeah our day. The worst is always still winning happily there's twitches write your fall asleep we have the dreamers and all of a sudden like a you reach out like keep the dog off the vendors with a guy and I don't think the thing that I do you like my my dad's not much self off the map I say keep the dog off the but I mean like elbow here yeah right in the head by it's like a sorry I didn't mean to do that I was just having his dream about you know python season. Airlines apparently are you know realizing that what people don't like the airport. Personally have a huge problem with airports. What are your guys thoughts like we knew what you have to fly is that something that brings up a lot of stress for. The airports themselves. Applying process like it's a stressful sure what we're gonna excuse for a drink. And that's that's my view is I simply go check I I find the bar and I just spend as much time there until my foot stand why do you go to the bar. Because I don't want to do anything else there is nothing else than just me and take the edge off for that right ball. No way I'd just like seem reason that I try to go on like a Friday night I I just the bar I just only deal with all the people just like anybody else. Yeah the secret that my belt and shoes and yeah. I have too much liquid in the oval bottle and it does look like airlines have realized look that what what makes people frustrated the most at an airport is the fact there are 101000 people crowded it's noisy it's it's not a whole lot of fallen. And so airlines are trying to figure out hey do we need upgrade our terminals and things like that in do we pay for this or does the city pay for it is transportation. And we pay for these improvements that people want. Ultimately passengers Betty you know with party facilities tax does have an art of good article in the Wall Street Journal by the way by Doug Cameron pepper worried. And you know you a New England we are two pretty good job Logan Airport compared to what was fifteen years ago. TF green in Providence I don't know how often you flatter than there that is a fantastic global airport it is and I used to play their talent. You know I I used to probably I used to be in the southwest flight sat there all the time isn't there. You know it's it's starting to get busier now it's it's not it's not anywhere near as busy as well now you know it's it's it's nothing like that. Never flown out of Manchester view ever for they have not had to fly out of Manchester. I've not done that fatigue green up agreed experience and you're seen kip dream in the wind really interest in international flights they are I mean flight from Providence to Scotland. For example. And you know the boss said. Connection with the news Portuguese American population. Good service to these orders are flights to Boozman. And I'm camera family had some of the other places. Norwegian parent agrees with the community I think so and and you saw this was an airport that back Ian. The early 2000 to 2005 its travel peak they were doing about five point seven million passengers per year. That's 72000 typical operations year. This year rather last year 2017. They only did about three point nine million passengers that was up from a couple years prior retreated 3.5 and so they're starting to kind of get things moving in TF green again. And I think it's something that overall is going to be positive victory saw last year they did the second most cargo through airport they've ever done. Who's seen a lot more cargo flights come in through I think a lot of that has do with the new facility that opened for Amazon. Down of all river or my Prius at my guess a lot of it's coming through Tia Greek it's closer and cheaper than flight rule in the other great news on the airport front you probably saw earlier this week American is gonna started in the flat out of Worcester. Two other oven Philadelphia I didn't see them practice summer so that's it it's a single flight. But it's great people and after counting you know get to and the am Philadelphia hub around 9 AM you can make up at the connections from there to the whole world. And I'd love to see the Worcester airport is curse might mean on exactly the wrong side. Of the city and unless you know what you're doing that. The way the signs league do you. But you through something like 24 traffic lights is at 14060. There's a there's a back way. If you ward can register and I'm ways. Or Google but Betsy you be great to see Narnia a look at that it is clear and succeed if it's too bad it is right weird if you wish it were. In theory it should be about ten miles south you know close to the teachers Anthony's right off the pike are so close to the hiker close to 290. You think that. I've often thought that the Wooster areas is kind of this. Potential gold mine that's just never really developed the way that it should eat it seems like it has everything it needs to develop as kind of another hope in Massachusetts. And it upper house. Those men curse by being so close to Boston I think he got to two Worcester people were from western Webster the crazy about it it's just tough to get people out there to begin with that seems right but you know any other city that has that collection of colleges. Only a prize WPI Clark yeah and UMass medical center you know if you pick up Worcester. And drop in and any other state would be a really nationally recognized. Kind of Mecca I do wonder if the the continued growth of traffic. In around the Boston area might push people out that way any was saying look I'm done with autism and outlast. Could make. Let's talk a little bit about Warren Buffett not being a fan of bonds. But this article from the New York Times says well maybe bonds might actually be what you need I'm not sure I agree with this promise before. Some bonds I imagine actually bonds are sort of like the rough edge in your diet in other. Boring and it feels like you know they have nowhere to go but down for one term bonds. And I love this quote in this your hamster from this guy Greg Fisher and understand Fisher quote. You own bonds to reduce volatility. Not to earn a return. And who likes not making money am on your bunt I just wonder if you don't the last forty years any investors traded bonds for the last forty years has done so in a declining rate environment over the long haul so they've been able to say look see bonds to generate returns and they still don't have too much volatility. I I think we're kind of artificially at that at the end of that artificial point where that's true and I just. I wonder if people were basing too much on into the pit classic past performance is not indicative of future success. I wonder if there's too much reliance on past performance in bonds and not enough emphasis on. These things may be different here you know things may be changing and we may not have exactly the same rules. That that we previously did in the bond markets life. I get nervous when people's well there's nothing to worry about in bonds and yet you can you know you have times where you know bonds due down but it never is bad stocks. Just because it hasn't been doesn't mean that it won't be. Until ten years ago people thought housing prices could never go down on a national level. There and they did OK so always I just I always am wary when Simmons is only that it hasn't happened before well. Doesn't mean it won't. And get crazy low interest rates that have to go up should go up will be going up as Federal Reserve. Changes that policy and you know for the thirty year treasury it's. Hard to imagine any scenario in which you know the prices of bonds obviously drop as interest rates go up yet and it feels impossible to imagine. Any kind of scenario where thirty year treasury to make money in the next decade. Let's talk a little bit about Mattel and Hasbro here Peter and what we saw was that at has broke. The average worker gets paid about 74000 dollars a year. At Mattel it's about 63000. What is what is 6300. Actually think that's a title. No actually be if you dig industries in the Wall Street Journal today Theo Francis. Story it's a great cautionary tale about theirs is great to add to what's force all companies tend to follow as yet the average pay that they pay there imply you Oca. And what it as you dig into it what you find out is that Mattel still employees a lot of the people. Who or sorry. Castro still employees. Mattel has factories. Hasbro outs sources to ill paid people in China so that Mattel the people in China weren't making any money make in the crappy plastic toys. A lot of Mattel employee they show as an employee sued drives down the average wage there. So those their US employees are getting paid 6300 dollars a year cautionary tale about you know when you see a number quote unquote disclosing the average pay at a company. Dig into it because. If there's a lot of outsourcing subcontracting and on that number may look artificially high. As I guarantee you some of our listeners now so let's let's talk about ESPN rolling out this new streaming service they certainly give us us some details on it. It's going to be for 99 months called ESPN plus. And I just don't know if it has anything that people actually want to watch on. No I would would all due respect Bergen friends in Bristol Connecticut. Any time ESPN comes out with a product assume the consumers are going to be ripped off we thought it was I thought the the expectation that I had was they said look we wanna streaming product and we wanna be able to compete in these streaming wars. While block. Then they come out and tell you okay you're going to be able to have. Pro golf like Grand Slam tennis boxing cricket rugby and other niche offerings and get one baseball game in one hockey game a day during the regular season. And some soccer games but not a good when you get MLS games not Premier League game and snow NBA and no Monday Night Football. I mean if you remember chuck when this news first came out how is like I was kind of probe PS PL's at all they're finally. Getting their crap together and they're putting out a streaming product where I don't be able to watch college football NBA baseball you name it. Now the honeymoon including those things. You know why why because they're happy B deals because they'd have to charge you thirty dollars in order to make the same amount they make off their like the they simply can't. Pay their rights fees on 499 a month that. Don't offer streaming service is this is a slap in the face for some of paying five dollars a month for officer it's Clinton really they say they're talking three types of fans the court ESPN user who is hungry for more sports it is you know you just get hungry for cricket during the middle of the day yes riveted. Then bit sports fan who follows broad base of six people are gonna sign up yet. I love rugby but I'm not gonna pay five bucks a month to one played I played rugby for a year you know and would watch it. And also sorry there are also targeting the underserved fan who can't find sports from his or her all the mater on traditional TV. Looking at Dartmouth I'm just not looking to watch over Dartmouth sporting event go big green anything about their original content programming. You know Stephen A Smith shows of the world or anything like that it it does look like they may have some shoes. That are on their so they're gonna have thirty for thirty's on there. Okay that's pretty good that they're gonna have those on there. But it it doesn't mean they I don't know about all the as the other. The Stephen A Smith shows know what what's the new and they just launched jog to add up to doubtful or shut up I don't know it's it's it's often. It's terrible either yet the ratings are like in the toilet right now show dedicated like 50% of what the previous show it's what was Mike Greenberg great it's him Jalen Rose and someone else Michelle beatle maybe now I don't know but. I did indeed can I get on Tucker's wallop predictions. Yeah oh yeah this lied about this five dollar month ESPN's sports streaming service is not for sale six months from now. Because nobody wants to get it when they learn what it really has. Do you guys remember. It was maybe. When was this probably fifteen years ago when ESPN came out with ESPN mobile. Yeah via the phone service that would let you get late scores and stuff and they thought all of these sports fans and sign up for it and if the service was terrible beat. No one wanted to see Smartphones you know like two years later no we needed. This service but I just it feels like they're going that road they're like oh yeah like this is something we should get into and then they just completely botch it. It just it. It does not seem you're on the wall Peter virtually. I'm honored yeah area we'll talk in six months. FaceBook apparently a Wall Street strategist who was kinda dug into the number says look. FaceBook is gonna put out some huge numbers this quarter in order to show that they are able yet to still perform. Even with some of these question marks. I thought what a terrible performance by the United States senate. Zuckerberg to skated around those people you kind of prove that he's that much smarter than all of them it was pathetic and you know we should have done a few of the US senate should have. Put. Two or three people Kamal Harris. Dick Durbin you know some people were Smart tenacious questioners and have them real. Zuckerberg rather in this ridiculous spectacle of everybody gets four minutes and you go from one dumb questions and problems I don't think any of them understand technology. Yeah that's like none of them can actually tell you anything about the technology in and like you have people who. Their owners. They're very Smart in one narrow aspect of society. But it would be like if you ask Mark Zuckerberg to defend himself at a trial he wouldn't be able to do what he's not specialized Ian. That specific you know match so it's. I just think that congress is completely ill prepared to actually deal with any type of regulation in a productive. Fashion house a lot of lot of sept two engineering in an octogenarian. And united say well I was on the Twitter yesterday you know. I love when was it Orrin hatch that Zuckerberg said. We sell ads yes senator if he said well so how do you plan to make money if you're not charging users for this well we sell lads you know and in there was kind of this awkward pause where it's like. Oh like I didn't realize it worked like that it's just it was not a great performance by by congress. It got me on an analyst saying that after a disappointing. A quarter and the only east plunge in the stock price yesterday. The single Bed, Bath & Beyond needs to change their game plan or they could and go down faster and they expect sometimes known as bad breath and beyond what's the last time I do you guys went into a bed bath and yet. December early Christmas shopping I think when he thirteen. Which ones are would you buy back its every time when he was seen are all in time I went there for summaries from what you know I needed I needed. Curtain rods. Kuerten or that's good push to get Kirk roads and I needed them and so I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond and bought curtain rods and about five years ago. Other than that have been been back I mean you always get those annoying you know mailers. You know mailed every other week with a 20% off the giant coupon in your mailbox right you apparently people actually respond to those. But they're finding that millennial low to get. Mail order catalogs and stuff like that our elected the Sears catalogs of the world yet it was supposed all of those kinds the coupon like millennial apparently just. Flock to these things right which is surprising but true. Let me get a major problem would bet that can be and we're what's the compelling argument for going there as opposed Amazon and target. Someplace else to I mean literally looks like an Amazon warehouse when you walk around Don Imus. Little bit have been and one in five years bull can't remember you get to just there's you know. Kitchen stuff there's you know coffees. App from start all home stuff like an opening Wie goes into violent thoughts or anything it does now is there you know little dips here and there everything you can buy at an Amazon. Last time I was there was to return something that my wife meant to return and head in the back of the car for four months. Ago I was curious if respective ports of he had the receipt and or maybe it was an awful for months but. It reminded me that there's kind of a reason I am now at shop and a Bed, Bath & Beyond. Korea and quick break here we come back we're gonna tell you the question that Americans asked Google most often about money right here on the fine. Into exchanges radio network. Terry suffered a securities America incorporated members in SIPC and advisory services are with the securities America advisors incorporated Barry Armstrong representative Armstrong advisory group the securities America companies are. Unaffiliated I folks it's Barry Armstrong and I'm joined today by estate planning attorney Todd lots ski with your legal exchange quick tip of the day. We're talking today about the differences between revolt Kubel and durable global trust. Todd what is the biggest difference between revolt global and irrevocable trusts probably the most commonly asked question. Probably the death. And first all I'm gonna tell you that there's many different kinds of irrevocable trust its not like just one tying goal and so that's what makes it hard for her let me let me at least try to. Bring it back down to what I think are asking me generally. Irrevocable trust their talking about are these Medicaid income only trusts now the ones are we try to protect assets from the nursing home. So if I was to compare that kind of and your vocal trust with a revoke of trust them. The really biggest differences. The irrevocable trust a protector acids from the national. The Reebok of trust never will so why would somebody user revolt global trust. Over and durable trucks there are times where people have either enough long term care insurance or what did well or lots of wealth and end their self insured because they can pay their own way through the nursing home so how much money you have to have me if you like we define rich force I don't ask for 1000005 nines. What the estate tax laws as high as they've the exemptions have gone as high as they are I'd say you know 34 million dollars or less you'd probably still going to be considering in your vocal trust if you're over 860. The state planning expert at Cushing and Dolan have written a brand new guide. Dole answer the most common questions you have regarding revolt Kubel and irrevocable trusts. Break here on the financial exchange radio network. From what some day maybe a few times today I head over to the Google. On the web. And ask you some questions sometimes about money sometimes other things but. The number one question that is asked about a financial topic about any finance topics on Google. How do student loans work. 2.4 million that a month you borrow money then you have to pay it back. I would imagine people are looking for maybe a few more details and you know what's it like to borrow from banks and select the bar preserve these questions like the number three search at a mere what is a car alone. It's don't you take him to buy a car it just. I feel like we should be asking tougher questions that lake where do I get a cart grown to like you know that wouldn't surprise me but what is a car will how many people ascent. 568000. People it's dramatic and that is every month Unix. Very interesting to see how do they won't work one that I think is pretty legitimate here and then like to see more what is a 41 K I. That I understand that under shark replicas are member. Back when I was a kid mystic and I don't know how old I was but I thought a 41 K was something that you put 401000. Dollars. And I think what you don't have a lake when he what do you do then so I understand you know 41 K it's not intuitive whereas I think what is a car loans. Seems somewhat intuitive to me made sounds like a race doesn't ask for what kind of like a five K. This sounds. How many miles that feel like 260. Years something like that yes something I'll never run it on the carpet regular old or all of a you've never done (%expletive) hole. I know. Busy how nikkei's have you done not 401 maybe two. To Carrie Miranda busta marathon once they did you are literally that was it I was a young and skinny man what was your experience that was fabulous it was I was a senior in high school. And it was in the best shape my whole life Emery and 334. This guy back when you could sneak in at the back of the Ana winds that technique. Seven minutes to get across the starting line. After the Gama and Hopkinton and so you know as I'm running all the way to bust an acute subtracting. Seven minutes got a bad case of cramps upon. Heartbreak hill. Watch a lot of the party and members Xoom running and the thirty four's not that. It was I could not do it today did you do the marathon track no I've I've never I've always wanted to but I've never found the time to train. Now consistent basis you know it's just I. That that's the big thing that is kept me from doing it is I just I can't build up to those longer runs I just don't have enough time to moderate mine I miss those days is nothing like when you're in great shape from running going to run seven miles and you feel like running two more days ago I was keep on going and everything where is now at sake. You for next to board and mr. born after like half a mile I don't give board outside a five draft do any kind of treadmill or anything like that. I I. I get to the point on the treadmill work about four minutes in and trying to play games OK and I increased to speak and I decrease the speed. It's just zero fun for me let's talk about Amazon and specifically the impact they're having on the industrial real estate market because. Unlike malls which are having all kinds trouble keeping attendance. We we can't build enough warehoused quickly enough. And the ones that are in good locations are becoming incredibly valuable great real investment trusts that are. Invested in the east for a couple times. That new Amazon warehouse for an on the Fall River Freetown line repair work. That's just an amazing thing to go by it is huge it just goes on they're not small network yet and and one last time was he drove down in the Jersey turnpike. But you get about thirty miles outside of New York City. And there are these where houses that look like they have 20300. Truck made a Rea. Part of the problem in a lot of. Big cities is because so much land is developed. It's difficult to find space to put these big warehouse and so you know that's why Amazon ended up going to fall rivers because they said look we can't do anything like this. In Boston we can't do anything like this in New Haven we can't do anything like this. In Providence because the wind isn't there we have to go somewhere a little bit outside a town in order to be able to do it. It does give us a way to distribute to a couple of these regions but. Anything inside you know the 128 loop in Massachusetts and being down on the 95 court or through you know Vermont and Vermont through Connecticut and Rhode Island. You know you're already pretty jammed on the air this will be fascinating to sees how many malls can be turned into warehouses. If you know retail good question yeah you know people are but I haven't everything brought to them instead of go onto the ball. The malls already there and by definition malls tend to be you know places would grade highway access that can be. My next venture. Folks estate and asset protection planning it can be overwhelming and that's why you need to call Todd Lonsky a partner with the law firm of Cushing and dole and Todd is an expert an elder law and taxation and he has been creating estate plans for folks like you. Eight not can be continuing to run for office this fall two days ago get out of town for the blue wave washes amount the F so Paul Ryan had not a town in in November actually in January once his term comes to an end. Aims speculation now that look that changes to Medicare and Social Security that Paul Ryan talked about you know kind of pushing next. Mike kind of fall by the wayside as a result of him leaving. I don't know if it's because of him leaving necessarily but rather you know you look at some of the numbers right now they're not looking favorable to Republicans in the house at this. Now I think if things were looking different and it pogrom will be stick around. And it's you know all indications are major wave election. Coming in November and on the topic of Social Security reform what's infuriating is you really wouldn't have to tweak the numbers very much. To have Oscar be sustainable we did twenty years ago exactly you know just have people work until they're 68 and a half or 69. Raise. The cap on and you know. This year your income that is taxed to pay for Social Security. Dual couple things like that and the system is fine until 2100 the big one the people can't figure out as Medicare. No no one has a K a concrete plan to fix Medicare that actually provides the same level benefits because. I don't think you can provide the benefits that we do one Medicare today and do it in a fiscally responsible manner death panels that's what we need. But we have those. That well big we have been repealed apparently. Tesla and the NTSB. Are going back and forth over this crash probe. I don't quite understand what they're even argue about said the NTSB. Said that it through Tesla out of the probe. Saying that the auto maker violated an agreement that it that'd been made when it released information about the crash Tesla said that it dropped out of the probe. What's going on here you can't fire me I quit. It is is charging what we're seeing on this shocking to see that a company kind of what you want musk is squabbling would people. I think probably what is happening here is NTSB obviously there are the world's greatest agency for investigating airplane crashes a lot of experience would train wreck pipelines. Mr. Kenny and to what goes wrong we drive those cars it's really outside the historical. Expertise have NTSB it wouldn't surprise me. If the sum on a tension between. The company and the investigators who were digging into something that is new. For the National Transportation Safety Board the NTSB though is widely recognized is pretty much the gold standard when it comes to. Accident investigations you know in terms of one of the reasons why being on an airplane today is the safest place you can be in the world. Is because the NTSB after any crash goes in and says look we're gonna figure out exactly what went wrong recommend change that need to happen in the in the the follow up and make sure those changes or implement. It's a bad thing that the NTSB is involved here I think again you're talking about people who. They are as good as it gets. They again are the reason why you have not had a death from a passenger jet plane crash in the US in like thirteen years. So I don't know I tend to be on their side on this not tussle while in their super deliberate. They even when it seems incredibly obvious what caused. Something to go one on the NTSB is so rigorous about never rushing to any conclusion and thoroughly investigating. Everything the interesting thing that you're seeing from Tesla is you know they're coming out there really blaming. This guy. Who was in the car that crashed and same you know several hundred feet of visibility was sunny day the only way this accident could have occurred. News if the driver wasn't paying attention of the road. Despite the car providing multiple wars to do so says they are. You know essentially found this guy under the by an in their kind of jumping the gun with the NTSB where they're saying look we want to finish our investigation and he gets a coming out and trying to get you know press ahead of it. We're not really on the same page here let's take a break when we come back poll Monica from CNN money's gonna join us here talk about Hershey.
