Stay informed and up today about economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day. And now the financial exchange with the Gerry Armstrong and chuck Exxon. Lest we get this time the big question that we had on our minds is when is the leading going to stop in the markets we had a significant downward correction going north of 10%. At its bottom. This week the question is is is this relief rally going to continue. As we have now had. 12345. Days in a row in positive territory today hoping for a sixth heading into the long weekend is marked to gonna be closed on Monday. That could be some that actually weighs on them a little bit today's people may not wanna keep open positions. What we're here to talk about what's going now we got a whole bunch of retail data we got home builders data we got earnings puts the stuff to get through it joining me today is Peter how. And and Peter you know looking at this market the last time you were in here on you know we can go on Friday. We're Cutler verse what a little bit. Today it's different personal little bit that talent people don't freak out and I think in heights at that looks like pretty darn good advice for about two thirds of the way vector recovering from. That's selloff and I think your point is very well taken you could see a lot of people who are like. Let's let's cash out and forget about things for three days but it looks like we're gonna look back and say this is a bit of an over reaction. Don't freak out seems to be good advice for just about anything in life doesn't it is he's content don't freak out just just don't freak out just. Deal with the let's let's start by talking a little bit. About the apparel sector this is something that we saw little bit. Earlier this week where he gets them yes and inflation data that showed that apparel has some of the highest price increases out of any segment. You know in you in the inflation data. And one thing that restore this is a lot more competition here particular. A lot of in house brands being developed among one of the major retailers. And Wal-Mart in particular now. Coming out and saying hey we need to develop some new brands in order to counter Amazon's own in house brands that they are developing. That old theme of the Amazon dabbling in things to the tune of billions of dollars and I got a caveat all this place and about 52 year old guy who has about. Six items of clothing that I read by every five years and my head explodes when I try to wrap my head around. Why defections come in what they go out I just semi wife and kids after the mall with the credit card. It's dangerous that's that's dangerous you know but it's much better than being there as they go through and try to explain why this is cool in that. It is uncool but you know this new. For example Wal-Mart they are talking about this new. Weren't called time and true in ladies we're and as they say these are New Orleans not labels now. Does that what does that mean this added issue without a dip I was hoping checked you will be able to explain that to me like what's a label what so boring and what's just a doctor can you help what's the difference between a label and a brand others are different struck. Ed let's talk about fashion in general before before we did. Fashion in general OK you know you get these shows and you know I actually I went to a fashion show last year I was down in July I. Hear me out so I went to a faster shall last year I would is actually I was on my bachelor party. Down in Charleston south Carol aren't questions of humorist got on I was on my bachelor party down in Charleston, South Carolina it's a bachelorette party who is the answer is just hear me out all right let let high error on the work through this. We in a body and I we got in a day early and so we were at a bowling Alec is it was raining. And we are bold and somehow one way or another we end up meeting owner of the bowling Alley McCain he took a liking to us that hey by the way. I'm one of the people putting on is Charleston fashion show. There's a big show tomorrow night he missed two free tickets runways cited some like our differing Mike are fake I just got free tickets have never been to a fast so I don't know what to do. Now keep in mind my buddy now we show up to this thing and like. T shirt is it's a bachelor party we had an packed anything right even remotely fashionable to worsen there everyone around us all the you know dressed up in everything. In these models are coming down the runway in here fast generic over insulate you know dress is in this. And like cardboard boxes it's like it's literally out of Zoolander I think you're gonna say hoop skirt there weren't clearly like what they're like cardboard box is one of them just wearing like a gray bubble like I'm sit there like. I don't understand what fashion is other than an excuse for people to spend money and stuff they don't understand why I mean that's just more of an artistic thing all of these panacea Kuerten or blocks on hangar somewhere you know maybe maybe well a few years now. You know I wouldn't rule out there's a lot of things I never thought I'd see but all the centers ailing man like all of a sudden you know you get. Guy walking down the street leather pants they really OK I guess that's back. But so you know Wal-Mart obviously looked and that's only cardboard boxes to where butts. I look at this and I'm trying to figure out you know wal mart's whole thing is is just trying to be down market they always wanna be the cheapest option why haven't people don't wanna look like. You know why but what do they need an in house brand to do so I guess that's about like why do they need to go that. That's a little bit cash today and I think if you go to Wal-Mart and you're shopping for clothes on a budget it's like on it target you know target has some depth decent enough brand names and in other side leggings for 996. I think that Jeep. That I think that's a screaming deal I don't general lighting spellings when o's what are the New Orleans or I don't. I don't dual life so those probably twenty dollars an upward something like that overlooked. So thick about a lot of people go shopping and Wal-Mart would they'd like to have enough money to be able to go shopping and Lord & Taylor yes if they go to Wal-Mart and they can get a cheap deal that feel like it's not completely cheap item of clothing a concede the appeal that and putting a name on it that's a little better than. Wal-Mart certainly is probably a Smart move so Wal-Mart trying to go after you know some of Amazon's growth is Amazon has been. Tennis siphoning off some days are over the world yeah I was trying to put it nicely but you know let's let's leave no stone unturned date they are taking over the world at this point. But then you also have Amazon and target in this battle. Because there's a ape research firm called foresight research that found that shoppers who bought clothing and footwear for Amazon. We're most likely you've previously purchased from targets targets that usein. Look we're getting shredded by these guys to be out one you think about sort of that the overlap of demo between. Wal-Mart and Amazon and I concede why others target you know the band diagram target choppers I would bet are more likely to be shopping. In Amazon and then Wal-Mart China and you know goes back to about what I've heard you say a few times jacketed you know. Amazon is getting into everything and have this incredible ability. To just go out and let's play with. You know on line. Web cloud storage that becomes a ten billion dollar business let's see we might wanna get into the delivery business now all of a sudden they're gonna take down UPS and FedEx it's. Incredible the power they have to. Squad beat Dele tyrants who do incredible. Economic damage to all kinds of companies get it they don't go win initially saying okay we're gonna rule this industries has kind of hey we've got extra capacity to do this what we play around and see what happens next thing you know. They've up ended the entire. Market there for one thing that I look at with target you mentioned yeah that's probably more overlap there because the average target shopper. Probably a little bit more fluent then the average Wal-Mart shopper RJ RJ up obviously you know they have that nice a French name it if you want to wat you know make it sound even better. But. I look at this you know and in target and it was come out with some of their own store brands as well over the last couple years. It it seems to me. That's the companies that are going to compete against Amazon successfully you can't just sell the store brands in store you have to do something online in and that's what we're seeing is whether it's Tucker and you tried. What was that that clothing. Yeah something like that the Israelis are like a zappos. No it's it's like yeah zappos is just like an Amazon pretty much she does go on there and shot is a monthly subscription thing yes and close yes you'll like them you keep and so use light blue apron for close yes exactly they'll sing you. A box of clothes based on what they interpret as your taste including. Com I cancel that subscription because there was not pleased whatsoever with it. But it's been successful nonetheless of course he got to look great when your radio yes yes you actually have to. I just I won't get. Apparel and in the margins are always you know there's been a it's it's a case where you have a miss on you know some of the stuff that you've ordered him bottle Sydney got all this inventory sitting there. And you know I just I wonder if these companies are trying to specialize in something that they're not good. You know it's you know they're not designers that why try to do something that you're not good you know it's it's not a core competency. It didn't unlike Amazon where some of these side businesses develop out of need and out of OK we just need to figure out how to do this. This is kind of hey we want to be in this business but we don't know how to could possibly the Amazon simply has the financial strength to roll with the some of those you know. Multimillion dollar mistakes the retailers make with the wagering that this is going to be the cool thing to Wear this coming spring and they buy you know a million dozen. Units and and they wind up dumping all kinds of them at you know marshals six months from. Yeah yeah absolutely could be that could be the case do let's take a break right now when we come back. Talking a little bit about seniors and where they're heading over the course this year that's coming up right after this break on the financial exchange radio network. Like us on FaceBook and follow us on Twitter that's TSE show you. Breaking business news is always first right here on the financial exchange radio network. Half of my child's inheritance when I die in the event that they got a divorce you know I don't think I sit down at a client meeting. And this doesn't come. Rate beauty do you bring it up Purdue the client. I think it's a combination of ball but but once you mention it made elements that always think about after death I know and when you mention it. They jump. It. One might spell out here that lower divorce is so prevalent I guess that's the pro and here's the worry right. You guys you both you leave each of your children half a million dollars right. And then three years after you're gone they get a divorce. You're gonna lose half a 500000 dollars on a good. And so what we try to do is inside the trust again another family reason to do is they play a non tax reason to do an estate plan. And and we inside the trust we create its shares for the children and we have independent trustee if you will making one decision only. And that is in their sole discretion to make a distribution to the child. Fortunate children. And that sole discretion provides all the creditor protection that they need from the divorced in the future. Tough times and retail sort of that's our theme so far today hopefully will get talked about other things but. Very interesting to see that they are looking at a chart to catcher to between fifty million a hundred million for fiscal 2017. Essentially saying. This is honor balance sheet are. Brand name is worth less and less as we have more more competition and I'll take the check way and mobile suspicious about this. You have a year ago they took a 381. Million dollar charge at the lower value to name in fiscal 2015 the church was. A 180 million. Now they're doing 5200 million. It looks to me electors some potential here for kind of earnings smoothing. By you know you really think that the decrease in the value of steers his name. Two years ago was really four or six times as much as in this current time period and at such and maybe an arbitrary exercise maybe there just isn't that much value left to right off. You know that that that that could be the case the thing I was like to do whatever we got talked about Sears is Alec to pull up their old catalog from the early nineteen hundreds and kind of go through some of the things. That are in there. Earlier this year we went through their 1902 catalog and now have a copy of their 1908 cattle welcome to the old time tough Sodom radio now and in some of these things are phenomenal one of them that is in here for a dollar and 89 cents. And it says sold by others for five dollars eight dollars. The genuine old comfort body theories so it was a brace that you would Wear to improve your posture. And it was silver dollar 89. And it says that it's the most comfortable body breeze round in order to promote better posture. What else do we have been here. Oh here ago. Conversation tubes this is one of those things that he'd stick in your ears you mid fall. Or know. Conversation tubes these these are phenomenal so it has hearing aid. And as an earpiece can you know here. Conversation better but it's got kind of a long cord so that you can you know instead of being embedded in your here you can just kind of listened through this you know gathers up all the sound of your grandchild voice and seems it your year. Exactly. What else do we have in here this is. OK with the kids suits for 98 cents the outfit consists of a double breasted. Blouse with boomer pants and an extra pair strip pants and jockey cap all for 98 cents what are blow her pants I'd. They they look kinda like copiers. Look at you know Kennedy. Bill little it talked at the ankles the knees up today yeah it's emit a fashion challenge Charleston yeah. As always we have the this cell blocks that are chuck. But actually they have those two. We we do have by the classic an entire house kept from Sears 725. Dollars. Fire house for house and I can use in the kit and try to see what kind of square footage is it looks like it is a six room cottage. And I can't find the exact square footage here but 725. Dollars. And they also offer a 100 dollar rebate for construction. Help if you need help putting it together what yours is again nineteen away while. Writes a check finish my sentence Sears Roebuck was 1908 insert to Amazon. There to help they worry that they were Amazon before anyone else than the catalog was it was ahead of its time and that's how they became as big as they work but I always just like going through some of these things what's what's this one. Stepan okay noting is that this this is fasting they were that he's out of jester radio. This is a script they they were selling. Decorative how homes are Barack. I think Bristol do immigrant knowing this was like oh an actual cow now not you know like it when you put on yourself when when you can look like one of them know what they can turn into stake it doesn't look like it has anything that you can do with it just says they decorative count. Sized statue it's a towel. The series that you know which it did they show what pulling like gay eat like a little buggy pa. Our race. Well they go in. And. And then they actually sold sculptures back then also this one it is titled wondrous art in a memorial breeding sweet innocence into its every line and it is 38 dollars and forty cents for statue of it looks like a sleeping baby on top of something I'm nice I'm not sure what but I was just like to go through NC you know what they had back there Peter about the story about the Boston Herald in there. Sale at this point to digital first media. Where do you think this is going in terms of where's The Herald turn to. That is a fantastic. A question and just to put a little context on this. Digital first is the company that already owns the Waltz on the experts and older enterprise. You know what the fish are sentinels getting rid of no they're physical newsroom so they will have about two reporters covering. The greater Pittsburgh area cool essentially go to McDonald's and gooch Wi-Fi when they have to file stories so you can expect. Some tremendous cost cutting. At the Boston Herald. But I do think there's an interesting model if you look around the country the New York Post the Philadelphia Daily News. There in larger markets there can be a a market or demand. For a second newspaper that really takes a contrary intake and the date the big newspaper in this case the Boston Globe. Covers the world there's opportunity there are really curious to see if digital first has the creativity and the willingness to go after. You you've been in out of newsrooms. For an awful long time you've got more experience there than I do obviously. What do you think if if you look at newspapers as a whole over the last fifteen years. What's been the biggest failure across the board not looking at The Herald specifically but across the board when you look at the industry what's been the biggest issue that they failed to address. Aid making people pay for online news beat giving up way too soon and the printed product. And it's in the globe actually used a pre Smart job of cranking out. The price for home delivery printed subscription about as high as the market will bear and maximizing revenue. I just hope you'll back of the data used to be this before your time but the bureaucratic reforms it would buy yellow pages companies. And if you can remember in your grandparents a steel pages but it was this. Rich guys that started getting killed by the Internet in the 1990s but it ahead. Tremendous value there are still lot of old people like going to yellow pages. With a business like that in a businesslike printed newspapers if all you do is slow down the rate of decline. There's of one time period we can reap a lot of profit if you keep this product going if I were coming in with a blast hurled at mr. tune but to focus groups. And I and having worked for 22 years at the globe. May be assembled the slow I would share talked to people about what you most disliked about the Boston Globe and the way covers news in the way presents opinion. And figure out exactly what the market is I think it winds up looking will bit like the old style. Republican Party working people culturally conservative people. And up high and rich people who've. Kind of don't like liberal opinions. One of the big things that I look at when I see The Herald. They failed to make any progress on their website for which seems like the last twelve years framers off it might be one of the worst web sites in terms of accessibility. That that I've seen and it's a browser crash waiting to happen how many times he do you go to and you just have to restart because it just yeah something goes wrong and crashes everything you have I don't know where you guys but I always enjoy a ton of auto play videos that you can't stop. I I love that when I don't know upside to favorite thing what's the best quit breaking or when we come back we're going to be talking. That the FCC right here on the financial exchange radio network. Time now for Wall Street watch a look at the market's performance so far today thanks to Darian jug right here on the financial exchange radio network. Before the break we tease we're gonna talk a little bit about the FCC is specifically. There is a a probe that has just been opened by the inspector general regarding the FCC in the easing of media. Ownership rules last year we what do you make this Peter. Well it's what you are unhappy with the Sinclair Broadcast Group and part because the politics and this question about just how many local stations should one. Owner control across the country at a higher level I just think this whole thing is stupid. Amid a whole publishing and broadcasting industries being crushed by FaceBook and Google and you know Linear television is being crushed by Netflix certain people going online. So it's sort of like. If the whole planet is changing wire you so obsessed about what's going on in this one country. Right it it's kind of like being upset there's consolidation in the covered wagon market when Henry Ford is world now is model T exactly so. Effectively what they did last year if if my understanding is correct they pretty much said okay previously. We would not allow companies that dominated a local market in TV also necessarily own a newspaper radio stations in a certain concentration. They primitive Hague where we're going to open this up and say look if you want to consolidate in those areas you're able to. Which is not an appropriate at I think the the metric these days should be. Average purse and how many minutes and they're they consuming media broadly defined and put FaceBook and that put Google and to a pre YouTube Netflix everybody else. And asked the question you know so how bad is this consolidation so not my view and and what I say at the time. I tend to be someone who prefer stronger anti trust legislation in place just because I like to give people as many choices as possible. Answer my view was tape I don't love this but I also don't of the fact that on the Internet. You'll have a couple real options in terms of where you get you know your information you know you you've got FaceBook you've got Amazon got a global. Other than that you know that's kind of where most people go to look for information. And my point was kind of hey what do we take a closer look and say do we really only want you know five or six major places available when you're talking the Internet or via other sources of media. I I'm always in favor just of breaking things up is as much as possible to be able to to kind of go you know where we need to go here. So we'll begin to that a little bit later but joining us now on the line is Mike Armstrong. Talk about what's moving the market and and Wall Street watching Mike thanks for joining us. Let us talk first about VF corp who are they and why are they moving today. Yes Soviet corp you run the whole bunch different brand that you're from which they went north base. Be Jeanne Dickey he's packed Jansport. They reported earnings disappoint in this both on earnings and revenue. Stock has been performed pretty well the last year or so. And they received good news there coming inclusion of Amazon recently that they are gonna have really clamped down on now and knock off brand but nonetheless produced. Disappointing. Quarter round. From DSC corp. Also moving in in markets today is Campbell's soup. And this is one of his legacy brands that just seems to really be struggling right now to that continue with this quarter. They did DIA it's been a continued slide in terms that sales. They beat on earnings you know there were cut costs not to be honored spent nineteen cents they're going to organic sales continue to fall by 2%. I don't mean organic soups I mean they're sales in general followed by 2%. And mark is not happy about the bats dot than a dollar fifty over 3% on the news. Another classic consumer staples company Kraft Tynes down 5% today after reporting similar story for them. Yeah I've really is you know just these these namesake brands have been around forever just seem to be really really struggling to keep up with this group retreats. Has changed we're seeing in consumer behavior recently did just that their estimate by five cents a share and revenue fell short too. Stopped down in another three dollars and 67 cents or over 5%. Very good thank you Mike. Mike Armstrong with Walter watched Peter wanna dig in on that a little bit you know both those brands craft pines and Campbell's soup. It pretty much of standbys of the twentieth century you know you it can't Campbell Soup a mean look you've got the ads go back to like the 1930s. When I am her way more than soup they're Pepperidge Farm breads are they they've got pulled my yogurt and it's hundred brands and much of packaged food grants you you you've got a couple kids and mocha and Great Britain 33. In terms of how they view kind of what they're eating and so forth do you notice anything from them as far as. In their thoughts towards these legacy brands and so forth. I could say one kid in particular. It's disturbing how much stuff he will eat that comes out of the package. Including beef jerky and has not fazed at all he is completely unfazed it's more has parents who herb you know at the age for you gonna start. Of the global pressure will Benton you know you become very conscious of a few Esther how to pay attention. To. Sodium percentages. On the side of other foods it is shocking when you look at notebook the things and Campbell's has tried in other there approached. Has been to kind of gradually dial down the amount of salt that's in prepared food but you know he kept in your fifties most people. Just have to stop eating anything that comes out of McCain. An advocate the other thing mean Tucker you've worked in the restaurant industry. You you talk about half chef season their food if you go out to a restaurant on muscle the amount of salt that actually goes in it will blow your mind if you've never seen I mean it is just watch any Food Network show approximately oh you don't have muscle and you see here it's. The state is optional coverages all poverty in Syria had a attack on a plate you know it's is so. Added Tucker when when you're going out buying food how do you tend to show up as far as you know some of these. Older brands like Campbell Soup and a voice of the millennial. Items from store for the most part not not really that. Preserved items a fuel. Yep I think a lot of these companies are gonna continue to feel this pain just as we continue to move towards. Fascinating good luck to those you can make money when that I have a hunch that most people will not and will be quite unhappy with. They're experienced encrypt a currency if you are bitcoin hold there is good news it's back above 101000 dollars. And obviously just from a psychological perspective. A lot of chatter that hate being back of that 101000 dollars threshold. Could bring some additional money back into that market beanie babies back up above a hundred dollars want them back up above 25 cents. One of the amazing numbers in this CNBC story Jack was the autonomous next financial research firm. Estimates. And remember this number how many crypto funds launched last year yeah. 167. Crypto funds twenty RD once this year through February 10 to these 225 funds at their three point seven billion. In assets under management obvious that's dwarfed by the map that's in the stock market but. But in three point seven billion dollars encrypt a currency that's a that's a pretty bold move also we went through the period in predominantly December aware. You had companies just adding the word block change their name just ignored to get investors excited there's company called Long Island iced tea corporation. That made Long Island iced teas which goes into one of those Tucker you know a lot of blows. All boasts what it's like eight or behind you have one needle measures are a lot of Rama IKEA whole bunch of stuff goes into them says the company that made Long Island Ice-T. They changed their name to long blocked Jane corporation in the stock went from two dollars up to eat overnight. Because they said some other Guinea's block gene to improve those the Ice-T experience. Like chain blackout it's it it's very reminiscent of the the first tech bubble and that doesn't mean there are going to be winners here. Out of the first tech mobile. That's the recipe for Long Island of what's in all my word. We have vodka rum gin tequila. And out orange flavored core. That that's it. And anything one ounce of cola. RC get out the Kohl who lives a little yes of other than that it's just straight liquor meant sentenced. Up to the professionals look at here's the thing you might be right in identifying the best technology. The best technology doesn't always win you are back in the eighties you had VHS and beta Max Brito was the better technology it was higher quality could use it more free. Wiped out VHS became the dominant format it's not his VHS was better. They just figured out how to latch on and market themselves and all of a sudden they became the dominant format so. Don't think that you are necessarily Smart enough to identify the best product in its gonna go up there you identify the best product. Andy could still absolutely destroyed so just to be careful on. High net worth individuals one of the biggest things that changes are some of the rules about gifting as well as higher rate at 41 K contributions how much do people put into a 41 K plan. Yes so back in 2017 that limit was 181000 dollars per individual that number is going up slightly this year for 2018 is to be 181500. And don't forget if you're over the age of fifty you have an additional 6000. You could put in there. Totaling 24500. However on the higher race side nothing's changing you can still put in 5500. In that IRA and adamant did not go up so it's really about the employer sponsored plans. For this one out on the gift tax out of things for 2017 you can give away 141000. Dollars per individual without filing any sort of tax return in 2018 that number is also going up to 151000 dollars so you know as we've seen the beer changes are definitely on the corporate side but there are some small changes around the edges on the individual side that take advantage of can be significant. They say video pads ten pounds. But don't tell Berrian Jardine the financial exchanges alive every day on FaceBook and YouTube Dennis. There's the financial exchange radio network. News from the SEC yesterday the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Rejected the sale of the Chicago stock exchange yesterday to a group led by Chinese based investors say that they have questions about. Oversight pretty much whether or not the SEC would be able to enforce its laws. Is that a fabric xenophobic flag waving American that this actually I've gained some reassurance. Not really sure that I liked the idea of stock exchange's main owned. By Chinese interest a distinct potential there for. You know you gotta think ahead 1020 years to me possible but like giving. China and air base on the mainland the United States the potential for wreaking Havoc with the financial system just. You know. Do the risk reward ratio strikes me as this is a Smart move by the SEC wants in any Gannett beat them the big question that the SEC had that I tend to agree with is hey if this company is owned by a foreign entity. You know. Are they able to live it did today eventually pull operations out of Chicago and we no longer have jurisdiction. And I think that's you know major question that comes of it and so I think that the SEC probably. It is is right on the ball here again when he talked about that the machinery that kind of makes things run in the background from a financial perspective. You want to have. Pretty close oversight that you don't wanna be you know saying okay we're okay with this potentially moving overseas. And in all of a sudden we lose the ability to enforce our laws. And I take China to my mind is not quite Russia but when you hear about a quote unquote Chinese corporation normal level of entanglement with. The government over there is so much higher than you know every is we have an American or Western European country oh absolutely absolutely. Turner's CEO John Martin says that the NBA commissioner Adam silver is the best in all of sports I tend to agree with them. While he got a taken of at a discount here 'cause I don't think that turner is broadcasting a lot of hockey your footballer. That you've. Broadcast baseball source close. Via MLB commissioner is going to be asking hey what about me pale but that they baseball's die and we we see you you can't make an argument that baseball has better commissioner when did the games or longer the ratings are down. The NBA I think is the best product out there arteries now if you talk about in and look on someone I love hockey. But the NBA I think is the best. Product out there at the moment and I know it's just an all star game but watch the readings for this coming weekend in gales start and there could gonna be the highest All Star Games in recent memory across the any sport I Felix you'll find that out on Tuesday just have way better product as a lot more talent. It's more enjoyable products has taken as a viewer mail. It in you also you look at some of the change that they've made to make the sport better over the last several timeouts again right. Get rid of the ability to call timeouts every plate that read things like that to improve viewing experience where you know. Baseball there's still trying to figure how many mound visits you can have it's like wall I don't want to see some VO 55 year old guy any uniform. Right now there's enough. Yeah Jim you guys whose fastball like. We don't need that. Yeah I don't I noble manager cry out of my you should have. If you need to make a pitching change to visits a day broke up the right handed have a guy right what do you need to get the ball with a good job they're so. Were right. You're grown man and I'll figure it like now we don't need to duel well there is going to be at its clock this year correct that if they formally announce it for sure they did. There wasn't crossing the B roll the got to stay in the batter's black's firm yeah can't and that doesn't seem to ever get him force they haven't formally announced the pitch clock yet and haven't no. It's sound I have then I its satellite news pretty close if not done. So it sounded like. I guess rob Manfred who's the Baseball Commissioner to restore an okay job god he said yesterday they're going to be ruled changed but he didn't specify what they wore. And he said this yesterday. So he's on the way yeah it's comedy in it needs to be like ya know when you want for our game cannot have the game take four hours a 162. Days of the year where and expect people to watch it today. OK maybe that's our fault for making ourselves too busy but that's the reality of the world we live in you can't take that much time. How does. Now. Guide how tax reform. Affects high net worth investors and Mike when the biggest changes that we see is in the federal estate tax on the what happened to this number as a result of tax reform. Sure certain 2017. You can give to five point. For a married couple that number was eleven million these numbers are effectively doubling so instead of five point five million you're now looking at eleven million for an individual and 2.2 million for married couples so this is really impacting very few individuals. I mean in the aggregate four. Americans these days and remember that's a pretty hefty tax rate if you get hit with the estate tax are talking upwards of 40% of that value that you try to pass on. So the federal limit is doubling the five of the six New England states have state estate taxes as well the most restrictive one Massachusetts that number starts to million dollars is guys and guy you know it's not just the amount over a million dollars if you go over a million dollars in Massachusetts you pay state taxes on everything you have but you know going through the list Connecticut as an estate tax of two point six million Maine eleven point two million like you said Massachusetts one million Rhode Island is about one point five in Vermont about two and three quarters the only state knowing the without one is New Hampshire. About an economic and market trends plus get breaking business news every day it's. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and sharks done us. I wrap up the week ran much different place than we were at this time we go. You know this time last week we're wondering whether or not we've seen the worst in the market weird you know coming off of a significant drop in the Dow and the S&P. And this week here would get the market on pace for its. Best week since 2013. So. Replace that were in just a week later Chuck Todd and Peter Howe here talk for zone behind the board. And and Peter look at where we are right now in the S&P has rallied. About 6% off its lows were about two thirds the way back up to. You know the highs that we had hit at the end of January. And it's not to say that everything is all well and good now. But it it seems like the markets have weathered this test and what we may have some additional ones coming in the next week or so. Of the people were feeling a lot better about this market given some of the resilience that we. At a high level but two thirds of the way back from that's silent as were speaking out 25300. And change and I'll OC can answer take the one view on this and a year ago today were talking about it down. With 20664. It's 25000. And something and you know frankly we were overdue for some volatility in some panic and a stock market freak out which should not trigger an investor freaking out of here a lot term investor that. Forgot happen and you got to wrap them the advice that he gave earlier ethnic stands up here don't freak out. Yeah that's that's led the stock market freaked out for you yet that it if if you were one of the people who panicked and sold everything a week ago. Patty field and a doctorate. Thanks doctor Ivins. But but you're projecting your jealous I wouldn't want to speak for the people so it's again. When the market is at its height they don't feel like everything's perfect and the market is quote don't feel like the world's ending usually it's somewhere in the middle and the like where we are. Right here today let's begin to earnings year CBS coming out with earnings and in beating a little bit by about six cents a share Peter. And it's the company you know it's it's gone through some turmoil. Yeah its boardroom over the last year some questions about what its future looks like. But coming out with a decent quarter at least as far as the numbers are concerned but twenty instead of a buck fourteen which is the consensus. Testament CBS of course is such the kind of shrimp in this world of giants and you know we see a lot of chatter about. CBS and Viacom which it swelled up a decade ago coming back together again yeah that deal happens CBS is still so small compared to. Comcast NBC Disney ABC. The challenges they face him to get in you know the scale. To really compete. In this world media giants did they own any properties. Worth someone potentially buying the company and saying hey this is something about like if if you're in the you don't need this because you wanna get into conventional TV if your apple. You don't necessarily it is there anything of value there that no one else can replicate somewhere else I mean the only I can think of that they hold that really has some unique value at what point is the NFL license. Yeah it is or anything else they're trying to think March Madness. And is where you know we are getting our point your sports you guys if they think about the content that they produced themselves out. And what they have that's unique property that no one else can do Annan. You know pretty much answers are yes gonna say you heard of him about to drop and Pakistan and you know it's interesting purchased. We talked in the last hour about the SEC revisit in the whole cross ownership. Restrictions that have been placed in terms of death you know Saudi TV stations Kenya on canyon on. TV newspapers in the same market CBS is probably the potentially interest in Anna on four he. Chris cadets hurting television. Know somebody who is primarily a a print and online media who's looking and some video I could see it being an interesting. You know vertical integration but our settlements are much. You know I mean we go through would you like that the publishing companies they own or any of the Internet properties like that there's nothing that really stands out is something that youth the biggest Internet property that they own. It's decent sized one at CNET. Now okay CNET is owned by CBS CNET tax on you know if any do for now but lakes and these other things you'll get you know case the only game rankings dot com. You know they don't showtime. I'd I did I I didn't until I was going through here and it's pretty big actually innocent showtime they got they got some assets there but you know I I don't know what the subscriber numbers are alike but. I know it's not HBO I mean in terms of content Showtime's really pushing that on the you know right up there at HBO I feel like. Really good continent but you look like a lot of the other things that CBS used to own they spun off Paramount right Paramount I believe was sold. CBS radio obviously it'll come mergers don't like so you look at what they have now and use their sane. Is IQ what would you do with and I just I just don't know. Maybe chop it up sell off has about a little tasty morsels. You know we we return in my Hines and craft. You in the consumer packaged good. Industry and you know other consumer products typically. See every few years companies that will take 456 brands and sell off to them Procter & Gamble spends about. Some under performers to other people it could well be that CBS's. The media equivalent of that that you just chop it up and opera. Showtime to sing a Comcast NBC universal some the other properties to other people who Bynum and CBS. It's been great knowing you but we're no longer in an era of a Big Three networks and it in when you look Viacom really got all of the meaningful assets out of that split. You know they're the ones that an up with Paramount they're the ones that has no MTV Nickelodeon and although they they're the ones they got all of the assets that actually mattered. Aside from the sports and in in the basic you know over the years signals so they are on. Viacom became the Mon the lees of CBS program yet pretty much pretty much continuing to shake up that we're seeing in media. We're starting to see more movies that are made in China trickling into US theaters. The obviously that was the one laster is Matt Damon. That was made sure. The great wall. And it's very that was that was Chinese finance I believe. A leader right now and then you're continuing to see more of these was. They're that was all that was all financed and filmed in China. The one that I'm super excited about coming to a theater near me is operation Red Sea a military action movie developed by wait for it. China's ministry of public security. Elect the Pentagon makes a movie and exports that's kind of distracts so it's kind of like Chinese version of top gun exactly that's that's kind of what we're looking for here. You know it's it's interesting because historically through twentieth century the most important box office was the ones that's where that's were all of the revenue was the bull of today you look at how revenues divided up in the worldwide grosses oftentimes for more significant than EC domestically. And it's projected that within the next five years China's going to be the bigs box office marketing in the world. And it's amazing some of the terrible atrocious movies get made in the United States and then. And and Bruce Willis makes that totally bombs in the United States are such a franchise abroad for. People to go see Bruce Willis with evil things blown up and checked doesn't like the fast furious franchise like kill it in China are or might. Latin America scholars are South America they absolutely. Be destroyed. The competition now and it's out Star Wars is big China team rate Star Wars big in China. But he evidently the fast and furious franchise they do like 7080% of their revenue outside the US. It's just it's a and they threw either of those now and I believe they announced in ninth. I think they did so probably if if you were one of those rare people back in near 2001 the thought that if fast and furious was gonna have a nine part franchise. Well you you were ahead of your time on now. Also again it is so much this is media related in different in the different ways that we consume media. Publishers. Are starting to warm to Google's ad blocker but the trying to figure out they had we make this work for us. And you know where the rules they do was gonna make its playbook it's is a little bit like a wolf shown up your door with initially with some nice gifts of Google's gonna put these. Because he's app lakers'. I don't act like I'm like ads don't bother me and the way I look at it. If having an online that is you know something that I can use in order for you know my experience to be free. I'm finals like I don't have problems UIU's school chrome which is just a web browser and I'm pretty sure they just implemented. The ad blocker on the fifteenth. Yesterday yeah it was yesterday in a so so yes I do use and a blocker than some of the things that their black matter what are known as these priest Scholl. And that's where you go to with Satan and your screen it's taken for X number second oh source of pop ups of the things like feed in and take up the entire screen and stuff like. And so we'd like it now but let's start thinking about it Google. Decides these are today's bad ads. Twelve months from now 24 months from now what is Google decided or bad ads that won't be patient on what does that mean for Google what does it mean for publishers what does that mean for advertisers generally in this is why I always say what when you have a company like Google controls so much of that market. At some point it just becomes too much and you want to have that company. Broken up not because they're necessarily doing anything wrong now but because the potential for abuse exists in the future checks out for federal trade commissioner. One job. That sounds awful. Google also testing a system to help locate 911 callers what's this about Peter. Well so this is I ate my coaches the story. From the Wall Street Journal does its best buy this but it. It would appear that this is based I'm using Wi-Fi signals. To self on terror Wi-Fi signals to regulate and where people are coming from. 99% of Wi-Fi deacons tended to stay exactly where they are for years on hand. And so this is it was interesting that Google brand this test didn't seem to seek out a whole lot of publicity with a but it had some tremendous results with helping insure that. Cellphones were people called 911. Google was able to figure out where people are within typically. An average range of 121. Feet. Compared to 522. Feet. Four cellphone company doesn't sound like or what you think about you know some Boston Providence. Dancer neighbor herds Hartford Manchester as usual apple blossom later by mistake exactly you don't 300 and or close to 400 feet for a month feet that's the difference between being two streets over and be in at the right address. Yet and regulators estimate that if this is able to be implemented it conceivably mean offer spots times that could save as many as 101000 lives each year. Just for being able to get to emergency situations more quickly self something interesting to watch there this is good Google instead of bad Google. Olympic good group good Google Google says some. Some I guess bad news for apple it's not really bad news it's more funny news for apple. So they built this new campus Ellis is Corey in Cupertino into the big spaceship it's round it's got trees everywhere and they got all this glass nor do encourage people to work together. The problem is they use so much glass. It in place of walls that people are walking into the glass because they don't realize it's there. Like the guy with the salad and an insurance add that it no idea yet DirecTV DirecTV might via my like you look at this and and again Apple's design company designed 101 tells you if you haven't all glass panel. You have to put something in there so that people can realize that the glass panel is actually there. Lori and I my favorite part people strip putting up post it notes on the glass doors they want to watch yes this is class however the notes were removed because the detracted from the building's design. Are you nuts. Like what do you think. You can build trust me people gonna keep walking into this. When I was maybe five or six years old I was at my grandfather's house for Christmas he had is Christmas tree out on the sports that he and they are sliding glass doors that went out there. And I ran smack into the sliding glass doors on Christmas morning to I didn't realize they were there. Apparently people beverage team from that you keep walking into the gulf we've all that we all hope on it as a safe apple and over Tucker said now we understand this. I think I didn't like a couple years ago actually if trying to get into the studio and and the cost we don't glass panels area where that come from but they picket apple is a company that is famous the you know precise about design yet. I think I think the best part about this is that apple wouldn't comment on how repute pour potentially hurt know of thanks the company dropped iPhone do you have because you were just talking and went straight into it must handle their year butch has come flying out of their leaders of these plummets on the ground. It's it's just one of those things we they're like a lowly. We meticulously went through every detail of this to make the best work environment possible in which you can walk into wal that you don't realizes there. There want to be a fly on that ball like last and it should say. To be a flight crashing into the may or that guy yeah yeah. We're about halfway through today closed them out play at least. S&P is up thirteen points the Dow was up 143. The NASDAQ is up 26 to all major US indices. In positive territory gold up about two dollars and seventy cents an ounce at the moment. Ten year US treasury at a bit of money had back in their down to two point 86 from two point 91 yesterday in crude oil is 6114. Right now. Silly relatively quiet day a little bit of positive movement. But certainly it seems like we're calming down from the volatility. That we've seen over the last couple weeks here. Make it six days in a row please six days a Roby nights after last week at the oldest fielded better with a little boost heading into the weekend. Shake Jack beating on earnings you think they would get a boost from there. But apparently coming out with some mock comp projections for this year. That left investors wanting a little bit the stock after initially being up in after market trading yesterday actually down about 8% today through the first couple hours. Or the shake shack thing. Does it feel like it's kind of cresting like you know twelve months from now shake shack is gonna feel like. The old new new thing. Like it's I don't plane hit it and I like shake shack. Oh I like it two minutes it's a great. Six dollar burger meal for eleven dollars it's it's not my favorite one of those types of murders though modestly but yeah Jerry to a five guys and on the haven't. I mean DeShea checked atmosphere. Absolutely destroys the five guys experience of yes me. I think I've I didn't pay cuts trackers all about the atmosphere yeah I think it's a way better cleaner environment I feel like that a five guys. I don't know five guys is pretty clean what you don't like those big fifty pound bags of potatoes that yeah I mean for the minus downloadable like our that we get. Everything's from scratch we get us it's hip. Ideas. I yeah I mean but the food five guys is way better at. I think shake shack they they've got a good product it's not a great product and and the problem is it's it's such a crowded space there it is there's so many companies that went into that burger space and it almost feels you know we kind of go through these waves of these fast casual chains where you know burgers were kind of the big thing for a little while and then all of Seattle the salad places they came in and like 2013. Its movies smooth you know suggests it's kind of like what's going to be next. And I don't know what it is but it's not going to be borders again was to pull lately murmur to be in. I try to create some sort of a burger joint to they're trying to do a burger place and pizza place I think lie. Tutor versions of full body clans. I debt yeah that's one whale to attempt to checks point I think people look at these numbers between 32 and 35 more shake checks opening and 28 team. Investors and that's just a little too much and this. Number weighed down in the bottom these stores company on our company operated stores. Earning 85000 bucks a week during the fourth quarter that's down five point 6%. From company operated stores a year ago and I think a lot of people are maybe look at this insane. With tap the brakes a little bit on fiction plateaued or in part but also with shake shack you know it's it's founded by Danny Myers big restaurant guy in New York. And if you've ever read Danny Meyer's book one of his biggest fears was expanding too quickly his dad went bankrupt few times from doing that. And so if you're an investor looking for a company prices a growth company. Why are you buying (%expletive) like he's pretty much told you I don't want to do that. So I feel like. You know investors may have missed some signals on this and I don't this company for a little bit maybe a couple years ago when they IPO. And I and I moved out of just possessive look at a I don't think the group is there to justify the valuation. And it's pretty much been a lot stock over the last year and last two years son doomed to follow follow the father. SO office Shakespearean tragedy. Kraft Tynes they're hinting that they may be looking for some deals aircraft times obviously. Company that you comes from the synthesis of two major titans in US food Kraft Kraft group at Heinz. But they're run by three G capital who war is a Brazilian artist guys out there as far as you know going into company. Cutting cost growing their brands but there's and then there's sand. May we need to find some new well new products to sell these three G guys are just they're SG unique killers there's this incredible number here that three years after the merger. Kraft trying to strip one point seven billion with a be out of annual spending and that actually is 300 two million dollars more than they an exit projected. Which is going to be huge. Great story here where you keep a great brand stripped out on the cost make a lot about what back with more after this break. Without placing any benefits that their currently receiving from places like Medicare. It in jeopardy. You know and it's not even just like Medicare thing your rate special needs children that the biggest issue there is. They might already be receiving some kind of government benefits that the Jewish. And and people inherently feel that they have to just inherit their special needs child. Because of their fear of losing the government benefits when they get all this money. And I wanna make it crystal clear out great reason to do estate planning is you have a trusting you to not have to do is inherent your special needs child. You can give them the same amount of money as you can give your other children who are says the trustee of that truck would have the children's. Who is at a little a sibling who better knows the needs of the child that sibling then brother or sister again. So easy use and not turn uncle to a could use a family member who understands. And that way you inside your trust your your family trust. It's a special needs share that allows money to be paid out to the special needs child to better their lives. With out jeopardizing their government benefits and that's exactly what you will he have a special needs child or grandchild that's a terrific reason to create trust and do an estate plan. Call Cushing and Dolan and receive their guide it's called the top ten reasons to create an estate plan. 8668485699. Total free. 8668. Or eight. 5699. It's not a bringing you the best in business and financial news every day this is the financial exchange radio network. Company that's been in turmoil over the last couple years with the growth of ride sharing services as Avis Budget this is a company trading right now under the ticker Carr CAR. That if you go back just a few years about 6566. Bucks a share it got down as low was 22 dollars a share last year before rallying. But some continued shake up there among the leadership team. Avis Budget Group and give this thing to me about on those rare occasions when I do you rent a carton airport these days. There's nine or ten brands out there it's basically three companies yeah and to your point check and you're exactly right think about people in their twenties. And we'd rather be in eight this ridge rather be in who were looking for well in any other thing I've seen is a lot of businesses now or actually encouraging their employees win there on business travel. To go in use over lifter wanted to services because it's cheaper for them. Been using big big getting a rental car. You know to zip Carswell did what I work for NBC universal they gave us all automatically. Zip crowded Tia that's an idea was in on Easter the bill any city the went to. I business they are very happy to big is secrecy got a big screaming corporate deal with that are of course that was definitely better than. The 29 dollar Hertz rental winds have been 67 dollars today after all Vienna and I have a great story like that actually so I was when was it was maybe three or four years ago is going to wedding. And I was out in India on the Indian in the winter to begin with which is not really where you want to be in the winter. And we've gotten in late on Friday and you know we're trying Q we had a drive. I think was like an hour drive to Wear the wedding skeet drive an hour to go any place in the midwest just about and so on yeah I go to the the check out counter in there by while blog going through oh by the way we know we have an upgrade Fauria and I'm like sure you know upgrade sounds nice you know I booked in the cheaper you know forty bucks or something. And yes she's like okay so it's going to be 612 dollars normally. What what what do you mean. She's that we city one of the program like oh yeah you offered an upgrade is is is that free she goes no like I said we had an upgrade which means I get into a better car and what. That's what an upgraded sake you have to know what you're terms are few doing an upgrade. It means a given someone something for free typically in my wrong on this say this sounds an awful lot more like New York City and Indiana. I felt so out of place I've heard an urban flam flam by simply from the midwest so it's like no like I don't want you know your upgrade too that's not what it actually is but again even without a lot of times ago yet in the insurance in this and that and everything and all of a sudden the price is double you know what it actually was so. You know Avis obviously the trying to shake up their board a little bit. Trying to figure out how to get rid of some of the extra inventory that they've had you know over the last couple years. Stock is up about 3% on this news. But. I won't get this I still think long term it's declining business totally and I think we got to figure out as a strategic managed retreat. And you know figure out where in the country does this still make difference what are some ways to shrink efficiencies out of it I'm fascinated when you see. The license plates are rental cars over the course of the year and these cars that sort of migrate down below it and march and then come back up you know it right and then you go to Logan and you rent cars and it's just bizarre with cars would Texas license plates in Colorado license plates and like how does this work in terms of optimizing. Fleet logistics but you know there there clearly is something there if it makes cents. To swarm cars around the country to meet demand and you know potentially there's a whole lot more there to take some of the cost out of the declining business you know Davis could do. Pivot to block change. Avis blocked team corporation I don't know what they would do but it's just an option for the Coke shoot eight. And it showed that passenger growth last year was sipping and percent year old Rita that's a huge number of people that it's phenomenal we decide Airbus stock yesterday up ten and a half percent in a day I would love to pull up the chart NC. What's lest an Airbus had a ten and a half percent team but you know fantastic. Everything coming into focus in a good way for the airline industry between. Global economic growth zillions and selling to be will become middle class. Potential airplane fires in the US you know pricing discipline pretty old Warren Buffett's story about what he would have data feeds Orville and Wilbur Wright. No I don't know for further from an investor he set for an investor stamp what this is in the mid two thousands. From investor standpoint the best he could have done would be to shoot down or whole civil right because at the time he was speaking. Literally the airline industry in the US had managed over the course 100 years to lose more money than an ever made improperly kept over expanding going into bankruptcy. Sell enough planes shutting down. And it's been quite a time since we've gotten down to united delta American southwest pricing discipline. That's a good for passengers great for the business and you're seeing it in these airplane orders. Well in and we talked yesterday the average per seat not revenue but the Percy profit. On eight and an average play in the US is about twenty dollars to see when it's all said and done sees it there any say OK so on the shuttle from Boston to new work. It was eighty people on that plane. You're effectively making 16100 dollars on that flight 01 out that way more than that Boston nor cassettes Scott McCartney in the Wall Street Journal that's an industrywide average number C got to factor and a lot of money losing flights to Sheboygan. VoS EW RI that that's more like hundred bucks SE but it is that you look at you say. Are easier ways to make 16100 dollars then flying eighty people 30000 feet in the air. You know for now like it it just seems like there be easier ways to make 16100 dollars. Well when you get tied jet fuel prices low when you've got. You know airlines not as rapidly undercutting. Each other it's always been a capital intensive fuel intense cities you know often money losing business. But I think you know people are much happier in the airline industry than they've been for much of our lifetimes. I agree fully. Joining us on the line now is Geoff Reeves for MarketWatch in Jeff thank you for the time today. They're just to the the title of the article is by these five undervalued stocks on this market pullback. Let's start first the market is rally a little bit the last couple days somebody's still look attractive to you. Yeah I mean I. Ironically the pulled back and you know what you pulled back anymore than Texans are the product in the green you're today there are looking you know pretty robust stature or strongly doubt. I don't know that pullback. It will be again but you know I I think out of the message behind these stock of and the PPP. You know little softness in the coming weeks I think investors got a country quality iron pot I think all these are still pretty good value investment that it goes in you know some of the growth plate in east seen in the past year or so that it got most of the attention. Start with Macy's day down about 60% in the last few years the charge don't look particularly pretty. But is there some value in this company stale. Yeah I think there is I mean Macy's actually outperform the market thus far and when he teed it up almost 5%. You know a the pain that this company is seen as obvious that he e-commerce brick and mortar hasn't been so great. But it actually had a pretty good shelling this holiday season and it reports earnings. Or the entire fourth quarter on the 27. You know you got about all the luck in two weeks. I think eight kind of encouraging results there good that the stock. Thought supporter remember that you know that a lot talk about tax reform out there. People cannot overlook some of these domestic retailers Macy's books overnight service revenues in Butte domestic keep US though. You know like I dropped to a 21% accurate as opposed you'd previously tech effect actress 36. It got a pretty good for the stock this year. You know at and that kind of single digit PE ratio it's pretty good value back for folks who were looking for market that an alternative to it to the growth plates that are out there. And Jeffrey think in the long term buy and hold a Macy's are just getting in and makes in profits while this good news comes in and get back out. Well I'm always reluctant you know kind of Burton mortar retailers putted the thinking years and that it does not I mean I I'd be comfortable. Just sort of short term play that the dividend is reasonably attractive if your long term investor but you know there's always a problem. Or. Prompt the bottom line to make echo way that critical company and the dividend I would be more profit in the long term play but I definitely think that the one you gotta watch. I think it might be pretty good for you know maybe the rest between eighteen that market that you wanna thinks several months with the December years about a buck like me he has been beaten down for for Gregory. Of a sudden a little bit about General Motors this was a company that from. It's re released into the wild and when he thirteen through in the middle last year. Was pretty much flat before picking up a nice rally to end of last year what do you think this one has kind of going forward over the next couple years. Yeah I mean I think a lot of the negativity around some of the auto makers that is a little bit overblown I mean we did seek a record sales and most 1617. And a lot of people would think that you know he used and apple have turned the upgrade cycle lot out of the kind of behind at you know but both agreed that we others failed is because technology in cars is just like yours that what was the content fifteen years ago. You know there's another state and autonomous vehicles and electric cars continue to come out and they're they're getting big mainstream adoption. Yeah actually it has a pretty good electric vehicles we thought they've redesigned. All their Buick cars actually a big reason that they. Beat earnings recently is because. The unit had a redesign its crossovers that CDs including Dubuque on grave. Apparently connected really well consider. You know I'm I think urged by all that and you know again I'm looking at value placed here is it also and into the UP. The dividend that he also lines are much more comfortable win. You it's it's not a 3% believe it's about three after point six right now. That is stock that I think people can stick with long term especially because. It would hurt talk from the the thought about reaching higher but the bond markets a lot of interest bearing assets is still comfortably under three if you get three and a half. The value investment like that you have I think that it is stock that you can hold on for a couple of years and pretty happy with the. Jeff obviously mentioned some of the changes happening in the automotive sector electric vehicles the shift towards driver was vehicles. Coming BS at some point the next a couple of years for a lot of these companies GM included. How does a business model like there's a look. With that ladder shift happening do they do we have any idea what a company like GM could look like then. Well I mean the biggest challenge that anonymous Karzai of course. It's all about regulations and house work you'd worry about insurance liability. We need to talk about whether cardigan communicate with each other with a road. I think that there are a lot of technology that need to be ironed out but I think the important to remember about company like GM. It does have the scale it that's the kind of will to succeed there's a lot of talk about apple but you know tougher has problems just meeting demand knob right. I don't know how would ever serve. So you gotta understand that a company like GM is that it is global it does continue to invest in are indeed it Chevy Volt line actually one of the best selling electric vehicles people don't. You're a lot about that because that does. Does he do the same volume so I wouldn't have a company like that out you know I think there is definitely going to be Jacobs on the regulatory front of the technology front. But you know where there's a world as a way and I think he and at least is headed in the right direction. I would never Albany back it just it the way I am I have to look at anything in there vitality that spur public opinion or twenty years. But I do you think that you know 2018 into the 20s19. GM is looking really good shape particularly considering market that that the value play here is. It's trading at a big discount compared to sign its peers and I think you can act. A little bit about Viacom this accompany that we were chat non earlier in the show. The stock has struggled over the last couple years as well it's obviously in a very rapidly changing media environment. What do you think they can do to position themselves going forward to potentially get this stock price to rebound. Yeah I mean you know that this is definitely one of those stocks like Macy's where I think you gotta be it's a little touch and gusty out attention to it but. You know black comic had obvious difficulties which doesn't have the scale of the brand that Walt Disney does certain Comedy Central and Nickelodeon but. You know beyond that it's just. You know a bunch of different iterations of that ecosystem. I think it's really important for Viacom that successful that streaming launch. They're really going all in that it's here that he would actually that at that point Holler at that again it's just good news because. Yeah the tide is definitely out and make that happen. I think in nine dollar question is you know the mid size entertainment company what does the future hold you in a lot of consolidation and a lot of folks. You know going big on streaming but you know his backup at the deep pockets and and the content library to actually survive. I mean that those are open questions long term but I do you think. You know after a big drop off the last you know 45 years here. I think there might be some value to be attic and market said with a other stocks. The single digits he company's investors kind of overlooked. You know there are hopes that a merger recede yes. Around the corner you could see kind of a buyout premium price in the air. You know before I think it is touch and go you gotta watch it. But for for folks who are just concerned with. Overall market valuation and chasing some of these growth stocks you know with forward price earnings ratio of thirty or forty. I know that it the last in the Amazon buy high and and just the higher but. You know sometimes that how it works it if you're a more conservative outlook for value play that you think Viacom and been on the politics at some value right now. Very good Jeff thanks for the time have a great weekend we'll catch up soon. Yeah Geoff Reeves for MarketWatch talking about five potentially undervalued stocks there GM's one that we've talked about it a ton on the program Macy's as well not. Not necessarily as positively about Macy's. But obviously you know with any of these companies in some cases they ours undervalued for. Legitimate reasons maybe eight maybe they deserve to be value that low but in other cases maybe investors just are quite picking up the story that the company's telling. You know one interesting name on his list Lincoln National which is buying up a lot of liberty mutual's benefits group then of great interest to a lot of Liberty Mutual place here. In the southern new England and that certainly looks like a very interesting upset plea would Lincoln National. Absolutely let's take a quick look at markets before we get to the top of the IOS and the Dow was up 169 the NASDAQ up 32. So all indices in the green crude oil also making a return to positive territory as well. Up to 6170. So again moving back up towards that 65 panel that we saw. Just a few weeks ago. So Donna we have for the dale Dunn we have for the week. Chuck is not a Peter around Tucker still look we'll see you next week on the financial exchange radio network.
